I have recently taken the plunge and bought my first share in a filly by the above sire.  I noticed some less than complimentary comments from the regulars on here without any real detail.

Looking at the sales results they seem to back up the comments but just wondering what the consensus is.

Thanks in advance

Off The Toe, congratulations on your new purchase I hope you have a lot of fun and have bought a good'un.

Arcane has been a hot ticket up to now, very poplar with breeders and quite hard to get into.

I don't know what the current vibe is on him but there were sufficiently good sales out there to suggest he has a good a shot as most I should have thought.

Maybe others out there will have more knowledge than I.

Cheers PotM

I think she's an absolute belting looking thing so time will tell - I'm having fun already, love the game and hope this is the first of many...you lot don't know how lucky you are (or you do and know the reality more likely).

Yes sales seemed ok, they seemed to sell but at workings man prices (compared to the top end granted) nothing really set the world alight.

Hope yours is nice but I disagree PotM.  For a stallion who I couldnt get into two years on the trot I think sales have been moderate.  He's a classic case of forget the median and look at the clearance rate.  If people had let them go then the median would be well well below the foal median - which is not a good sign at all.  If you've a dam better than the one I tried to get in then its not a £15-20k yearling you want.

All that said, I'll be amazed if he doesnt get a few listed / group performers next year.

I concur yer ma and I think that's what I'm getting at..kind of smacked of stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap.

There is plenty of good 2yo form on my dams side and the sire obviously was blessed in that dept, so let's hope that get off to a flyer.

Yes I'd take listed or group performer too Laugh

a nice speedily bred stallion but I am very surprised to hear you couldn't get in 2 years running Yer Ma. He didn't train on at all and I didn't realise these cheaper stallions restricted their books that much.

In any case, I think these sons of OD will get plenty of winners so I would be hopeful of success for you Off the Toe.

I think he will be a sucess. Aqlaam and Captain Gerrard (other sons of OD) have done slightly better than I thought they would this year, but I much prefer Arcano to both of them.

Will be intersting to see how Arcano and Showcasing compare next year as I seem to remember they were only seperated by a short head at Newbury on their debut's. My money would be on Arcano but you never know...

Wilycayote

I think Showcasing's pedigree is speedier and probably more precocious than Arcano's. Arcano is inbred to Mill Reef and I would expect his stock to possibly improve with age (even though he didn't) more than Showcasing's. I think Captain Gerrard has the best pedigree of the three but I don't think he got many mares after his 1st season so it will be an uphill struggle for him from now on.

Cheers true honcho half sister to a guineas 4th looks like a tank already, that said I haven't a clue...but appears a forward looking type I'm already targeting the Lowther Happy

That's right wily I watched said race on the derrinstown site...I prefer arcano to showcasing myself too

I don't think we disagree at all yer ma. He was a hot ticket with breeders as we both said and whilst I didn't particularly have a sense of the current vibe, I don't see why the nicer ones, of which there were a few, shouldn't as you say perform at stakes level.
That makes him as good a shot as most at his level. After all most of them fail!
