This purchase could have been be a monumental mistake, but the strike rate of the Qatar horses is very good. There must have been more than one agent who wanted Hydrogen for the price to reach that level so the underbidder was almost equally wrong.

Strike rate of David Redvers at the sales is shocking. 10s of Millions spent and I cant remember them having a group 1 winner they bought as a yearling. Look through the sales returns. Most of their success has been buying horses in training.

Hydrogen was well documented to be about Sheikh Fahd not D Redvers when it came to the amount paid so I am not sure you can blame Tweenhills entirely for that. I think to date Sheikh Fahad has been very well served as he has 3 stallions already and is positively restrained when it comes to his auction forays compared to Sheikh Joaan!
This week though serves as a reminder that with two fabulous horses bred well and truly stoutly by modern standards, you ignore stamina at your peril. I know it is always necessary to keep an eye on injecting speed before your stock end up as Hollingsworthy but the fact is, 300k Acclamations or 150k Clodovils or Kyllachys is the route to a 90 rated 2yo who may or may not be competitive in the Norfolk. Not necessarily money well spent when looking to found a dynasty.

Personally I'm quite keen that there are plenty of people wanting to buy "Norfolk" type speed horses, as I think most of us on this forum would go bust pretty quickly if not. Cant afford the Galileo nominations just yet!

Couldn't agree more Wily but I think these wealthy folks won't get in all the winning circles that matter if that's all they buy.
And I'm not sure if I can ever upgrade my stock if that's all I ever try to breed. So I'm just trying to create the market for my future boats!

I expect him to end up with one of the shrewd "handicap" trainers like M Appleby, Ellison, Carroll et. al. who might find a late developer there. Alternatively it might be novice hurdles if nobody wants to take a chance on him as a non winning stallion.

They'll retire him surely rather then risk been made look stupid for the sake of getting 10k at a HIT sale ? No idea what they'd do then, but he would be best forgotton about

Probably right Koo, but if they buy horses for that sort of price every year, they could run out of stables to put them in unless they sell some. If you have the money, buying proven horses like Treve and Elm Park is a better investment than yearlings imo.

He will probably end up in France covering jumping mares. In 10 years Willie Mullins will have a superstar winning at Cheltenham. As for the cost of horses (fast cars and art) like national hunt racing a rich man and his ego do not comply with common sense.

Apparently now being ridden out by his owner Sheik Fahad as practice for a charity race ride. Presumably they wanted to give him a fairly slow creature to hack about on and looks like this fella fits the bill.
