We do around 8 weeks starting 30 mins am/pm walker (hand walking would tend to have to double this) - up to hour by end.  Wk2 roller and then side reins (extent of use depends on neck/crest).  Wk3> once up to 5 times a week lunging - totally depends on muscle tone & mental state of horse. Wk4> twice a week up to twice Daily walking in yard showing, standing. No more than 10 mins.

If the need muscle and/or bulk adding Saracen Equijewel works, Baileys Outshine give great coat, Red Cell is a great supplement and keeps them eating.  Beet Pulp.  Min. 15% protein mix

Other tips, sedalin and dont resort to heavy rugs until close to sale (after washing) for better coats. DMSO gel leg bumps

Cheers

5 mins both ways at a quick trot & canter if possible.  I was always told you should see the veins but not sweat!

Glad to hear you don't overlunge - I don't these days when I am breaking them in (I remember being in yards that lunged for 30 mins minimum) and it seems to avoid splints/shins so far.  For me so long as they are listening and learning, that's what its about.
