Trading Leather and Dawn Approach's breeding doesn't to me seem likely to have got 2 classic winners this year. I know nothing of JB's operation (other than it is hugely effective) and his breeding strategies and am curious to any views and information that forum members may have.
Obviously both are descendants of Galileo from stallions he bred, so is he just lucky to have access to such high quality stallions, and is the stallion the overiding element in the breeding equation. On that point Galileo must surely have no quashed any and all doubts that he is a sire of sires and will go on to produce some outstanding stallions in the future.

I know what you mean; and just as crazy is thinking a High Chaparral / Grand Slam cross nearly produced a St James Palace winner! Especially when you consider the mare's other 3 offspring had failed to win a race in 14 attempts between them

Btw, bit controversial this, but....now that we know that that the the 3Y0 generation which were headed by Camelot weren't up to much, how come despite all the resources at their disposal (including MAZ!), Godolphin weren't able to field a single contender in his Guineas or Derby. Makes you wonder, eh?

George B, who knows where anything comes from! There's a ton of chromazones out there and who the hell knows how they'll be jumbled up.

it's massively bloated and the MAZ fiasco just goes to show how bloated. If we believe they knew nothing on that score then they are as hopelessly out of touch with their personnel as their breeding programme. They need to cull cull cull until they are back in control and staffed accordingly then they need to mate sound mares to sound stallions and give Ma Nature free rein. Endless tinkering has driven them backwards and I think that their policy of hoovering up stallon prospects is about the only thing they have got right in recent years. Shame on them that they've had too mind.

I am a relative newcomer to this thoroughbred breeding game but It's pretty obvious that Godolphin are under achieving. The purchase of Libertarian was a poor decision in my opinion and the first cull I would make is the racing manager.

On Pedigree, I cant work out how Trading Leather won the Irish Derby and Dawn Approach is a mystery, maybe other influences at work. Pedigrees don't stack up in my book. Gifted trainer maybe?
