Surprised this hasn't generated a topic !

What are the thoughts of the breeders on here?

I for one am hacked off. Can't find out what is happening to the existing Breeder's prizes but expect that they are, as ever, decreasing rapidly and probably only being allocated to the better races. Be that as it may, why would I want to pay not only the RP Yearling Bonus but know also this BOBiS stealth tax ? I was under the impression my TBA sub benefited when/if my homebred won a race by maximising my breeder's prize. Now, it seems, I need to shell out £185 for all my homebreds born 2011/2012 in order for them to be eligible, after having coughed up my RP Yearling Bonus dosh and paying a ridiculous high TBA sub for which I get a monthly magazine and sfa else. All the while watching the market barely able to keep its head above water...

I must have missed the consultation documents about this new scheme - entirely possible as I have enough paperwork re the farm to keep me busy enough plus the day job - but I am amazed the scheme had any support.

But at least it's made my mind up - my TBA sub is being cancelled and I am very glad my broodmare band is now down to just the one!

Its another scheme of breeders/owners buying back their own money

Breeders' prizes make me sick.

You either breed to race or breed to sell and if it's the latter, then your 'reward' should be the price someone is prepared to offer you in the sales ring which is governed by demand and market forces at that time. Nothing more. What right do you have to demand something extra? To my knowledge, nobody has ever been forced to send a mare to a stallion, it's a business decision just like those made in other businesses day in day out.

To me, the basic premise of breeders' prizes is absolutely wrong. Why should someone receive a bonus for producing something that the buyer expected when they shelled out (i.e. - a horse to win a race)? What about the vast majority of horses bred that don't win, are you going to give the buyer a refund? No, of course you're not.

JohnnyM, I do find you a little hard to read sometimes. For goodness sake get off the fence and stop with the ambiguity. Say what you think Man!Laugh

I currently have my fingers in the ears and am very loudly going la la la la la whenever the word BOBIS is mentioned. I shall grow up soon hopefully and apply my limited grey cells. . .

Well,  I am afraid My patience has run out with the TBA who obviously can't be arsed to reply to a small breeder who disagrees with their actions, so my subscription is now cancelled. I don't want to pay £150  per foal bred between 2011-2012, thanks - I've already paid my RP  yearling bonus. After 28/02, reg fees rises to £250 and after 31/01/14, it's £750 !!  All so that I'm legible for  £1800 if my foal wins one of 400 qualifying races.... And no info as to what type of race is a qualifying one, either.

So no, Racing Services, Weatherbys, on behalf of theBHA - I do not want to contribute, thanks.
