With the high averages for both these categories,is the market again in danger of overheating ?Having been present at both the Newmarket October sales and recent foal sales,it was quite noticeable that average individuals realised sums that bore no relation to their real worth.I say that as someone who sold at Bk 2 for a 50% profit on foal purchase price. In my opinion a large number of people will catch a cold over the next 10 months - perhaps fatally.
dom while I agree with your overall statement I have come to the conclusion that there is no real worth for a yearling/foal they are worth what two (usually very rich) people think (or are told) they are worth and that has no relation to any measure of value

it does seem that the well off buy several at a certain price hoping one does very well, the money does seem to be irrelevant in a way, so too the worth of said animal, hydrogen for instance (2.5m) yearling filly, i'll be amazed if she wins classic/group 1 races, she may do but personally can't see it, now i've picked her at random no reason just on price, there are a few made silly money, now in normal life you would expect big things from them all, but reality says maybe one of top 8-10 priced yearlings will be a star, i know the breeding for fillies, means maybe a return on investment, but prices are for fashionable breeding rather than ability, its a lottery always has been, but if you can afford a few millions, you can buy away knowing one good one will cover all costs, its not really down to judgement, just financial muscle,

I am not sure where really you are coming from Dominion. If you think that the market is overheating then perhaps your skills as an economist are better honed then mine, who knows. Buyers get to the sales, decide how much they want a horse then wave their catalogue and stop when they think fit. It is a totally ridiculous game and there is actually no way you can attach a universal value to an untried yearling. I have just had a good sale so it was off to Marks and Spencer to buy some new pants. Many on here wouldn't be seen dead in anything other than Prada ones, but we pays our money. . . My last year foals universally made good money for their buyers at the yearling sales so thats a section of the market that found 'value'. Cunningplan, I don't think 'one good one' often covers costs I'm afraid. I don't know that many yearling buyers honestly make the racing game play.

potM congrats on your sale, i think i know the two
not saying one from a few does make it even, just even coolemore seem to blanket buy the best hoping for a superstar, then with stud fees etc it pays, be interested to see so called "good judges" pick one or two moderate buys each year and find a good one, its what i will have to do, to get into this game, with deep pockets i could find a superstar eventually, even pinhookers although good maybe at finding potential and selling on "like your foals" are only looking for value, i mean end users, racing and breeding from said purchasers,
your foals last year potm made good profit for the pinhooker, will the new owner find them good value? i guess time will tell

Foals, and mares in foal, to Fastnet Rock making big money at Tatts and Arqana. Getting the feeling that the big cheezes are giving him the nod.
If I had a high class speed mare think that's where I'd be heading for next season. Anyone that has been at Arqana feel the same?
