What am I missing here? Can someone justify fee increases to both Archipenko and Sir Percy please? Typical of this industry, someone puts their prices up and the rest follow like sheep and do likewise. This has nothing to do whatsoever with supply and demand, it is simply pure greed. And wrong.

I followed Sir Percy this year as he just about falls into my price bracket (after a little negotiation!). To be honest I've found him a little disappointing. His 2yo's didn't improve really and he only got 6 or 7 2yo's this year and I didn't think any were that great.

The thing is JM, there surley can't be that great a demand for him can there? It must just be ego's gone mad!

I think you're spot on Truehoncho. I've got nothing against Sir Percy, he's a good, honest, old-fashioned type of horse but take Coquette out of the mix and he's done nothing in my eyes to justify a price increase. Nor am I having a pop at Lanwades in particular but it just seems wrong to put fees up at this stage which in my opinion is a year too early. Of course we had a fantastic round of yearling sales this autumn, but prior to that the last couple of years have been difficult and I would have thought it would make sense to keep nomination rates static thus dangling a carrot for breeders to get involved again and make a bit of money. Then, if the sales perform well in 2013 by all means have a little increase on fees.

I think there is scope for Coolmore to release their fees at a realistic level and say feck you, to the rest of them, we'll have all the mares at our place thank you very much.

They are quite happy with 200 mare books so they can just add their ordinary stallions to the list that cover that many.

The only upside to this crazyness - I mean since when did the German Guineas winner represent justification for a 50% fee rise for a horse already at the top of his level? - is that the list of stallions that represent any sort of value is so damn short it's going to make selection mighty easy.

Downside obviously, that they aren't really commercial.

Upside, that at least if I use a horse who has 0nly gone up by 2k he has at least got 9 stakes winners including 3 at Gp 1 this season so you feel like your mare might benefit, if you pocket doesn't.

Is that Medicean?

Well there we are then, Coolmore fees are out.

Seems like they've got with the programme and kept 'em high enough.

Excelebration seems steep enough. Particularly for a horse that'll earn them a mint down under too.
Power strikes me as okay but I'd still like answers as to why he was unsold as a yearling.

Yes johnnyM Twas medicean to whom I referred!
