Timing's crap but in this world of Relative Values, this horse might just represent an angle. . .

Agree with both of you, timing IS crap and two years too late!5k you must be joking half that if you really want him.

FINALLY!!

at least he's an option. Only beaten short distances by STS and Mastercraftsman in G1s, his form is a lot better than some we are being offered. I agree that he needs to be cheaper but he adds a bit of competition over here which in turn gives another negotiation arrow to your bow.

Classic PD assessment of ANY non-irish stallion ;)

Clearly its overdue but I'm not sure he's less desirable that Strategic Prince, Zoffany, Requinto etc.  A better horse than the vast majority of the retirees this year.  Not near the top but probably on my some potential list. So there

I really do think this horse deserves serious consideration if one is keen to play the cheap 1st season game.

When you sign up to any 1st seasoner you have the wait of 2/3 years whilst you give the market time to forget about them. With Delegator if you ignore his Meydan win in 2012 which we surely must, you only have to add another year to the 'forgetful gap' before you get back to his Gp2 Duke of York win.

The opposition at less or a bit more are riddled with question marks on ability/soundness and plenty have their fair share of forgettability issues too. As I've said before I also think that Foxwedge and Helmet as 1st season competitors, will require a similar education of the buyers, for different reasons, too.

No fighting - just a bit of observational ribbing.  Game of opinions n all that.  In general it seems the UK stallions masters are going overboard with their mid range sire prices and have en masse decided that 7.5/8k is the only entry point allowed.

Prima, you having a love of 'downgrading' a nice mare and having a punt with a cheapie, where does that leave you with the current crop of new bargain basementers?

Are you sorted at the other end of the scale with the somewhat more high profile new kid? Wink
Report Prima Donna November 15, 2012 8:16 PM GMT
Pot M, I'm saying yes I shall be seeing the 'new kid' soon and yes he's seriously on the list he is commercial, and as for the cheapies well yes a few one mare is going to a stud you use and she really warrants a sire above that stallions fee but I like to take chances as you know.I shall soon see Maurice Burns so we shall see what's the deal.Did you know King's Best has gone to Japan?
Report potentialmillionaire November 15, 2012 9:10 PM GMT
I suppose Kings Best has plenty of appeal for Japan but I would have thought that France hadn't finished with him yet. As written by someone elsewhere though, it appears the days of benevolence are on the wane from the Lighter of the two blue outfits.
Are you using the 1st seasoner at the stud (I am guessing) you refer to? Or do you have a Night Shift mare!!
Report Prima Donna November 15, 2012 9:43 PM GMT
No I don't have a mare by Night Shift and so far I'm not planning on young Reynard either, but I do have a nice mare that could be heading there.Personally Kings Best had Japan written all over him.How are your Dec' foals coming along?are you very excited.
Report potentialmillionaire November 15, 2012 9:55 PM GMT
I obviously have limitations in December Prima as you can tell from the catalogue Cry

I might get away with it, but it's too close to call for someone too close for comfort!
Report Prima Donna November 15, 2012 10:08 PM GMT
It can't be as bad as your star sire from a few years ago.........you know who he's sadly dead!Good Luck mind the new one should be popular.I will get my man to look....Surprised

i have just had the Delegator hard sell from Overbury. Is there much to choose between him and Bated Breath? He is more precocious and 3k cheaper. Will the fact that he's been invisible for the last 2 years make that much difference?
Report potentialmillionaire November 24, 2012 3:05 PM GMT
true honcho. I think that any worries on that front have surely been dispelled at Goffs this week.

Fast Company.

Last seen on a racecourse in October 2007. 5 years later and his 1st foals appear, off a peanuts fee, and BINGO!

A good looking 1st crop IS everything and that is the thing we need to search for as ever.
I am mindful of Prima Donna's comments as I suspect his operation is a little larger than mine and he is always a little wary of Dansili's inconsistency, whereas I have no real experience. Delegator looks okay in his photo - indeed he may be better looking than that in the flesh. Perhaps not what you would call a 'sharp and early' type of hind leg though.

Tell me, what form did the 'Hard sell' take and what was included?
Report truehoncho November 24, 2012 3:33 PM GMT
PotM, I have been sent an 8 page colour booklet that emphasises, amonst other things, his "cut-throat" acceleration!
