On 16 winners from Peru To Paris.
He got some of the best hens in the business Stateside but he is perched up on number 1 with some nice stats there at the moment only danger with prizemoney so terrible in the UK a $150k lead is only a few maiden wins here or there at the main tracks in the US.
Had more of his runners were left Stateside by Coolmore with Todd Pletcher he would have romped it
Interesting to see some American sharp eyes saying George Vancouvers action is all dirt and he could go to the top on that surface surely that applies to a lot of his stock they brought over

Any of ye boys going to take a punt with him over here. Fast ground you could have a machine, slow ground possibly you have a plater :p

Just to add imo the 2008 3yr old racing crop was one of the best in recent years great to see Henrythenavigator, Ravens Pass, New Approach and Tamayuz all doing well as stallions this year.

Henry was on my radar but I feel that the Breeders Cup turf juvenile - despite it being a tricky old event to quantify in terms of quality ( Wrote anyone?) - has rather scuppered the chance of a working mans fee. It smacks of a good little earner by Coolmore to freshen up his persona in a new location when he might not have set the world alight 2013 season stateside because of an 'acceptable' start coupled with familiarity. Here it can be a 'great start' plus the lure of the new, with fee set accordingly.

Wonder where it leaves the poor mans version Thewayyouare too.

A look at his first crop stats don't impress me.

189 Foals

45  Named

37  Runners

16  Winners

20  Wins

2   Stakes winners, 3 Stakes Placed

2   Group winners, 2 Stakes Placed

At this stage of his career, I note all his winners are out of top producing mares and the only mare he has improved (slightly) is the dam of George Van.

The Gotchee sure your anti Coolmore I dont think anyone would have thought you would be impressed infairness Laugh

PM you think he is going to be pitched in very expensive mark? His offspring so far that I have seen bar Tuna Papita have really took after HTN on the ground something that has to be in owner breeder and purchasers minds with the "amazing summers" we have lately.
Report mightymoyes November 10, 2012 12:37 AM GMT
would those be usual numbers to have raced at this stage? 37 out of 189.
Report The Gotchee November 11, 2012 11:19 AM GMT
jmc27 you are easily impressed. I am not anti Coolmore, they have two or three good stallions but the rest are fairly ordinary.

mightymoyes those numbers that have raced at this stage wouldn't be unusual for a Coolmore stallion.

Some of the covering sires who stood in 2009

New Approach covered 136................30 runners in GB and Ire

Ravens Pass  covered 116................33 runners in GB and Ire

Tamayuz      covered  88................25 runners in GB and Ire

Sakhees Secret covered  118................56 runners in GB and Ire

Sixties Icon   covered 51................. 17 runners in GB and Ire

Duke of Marmalade  covered 170 ............34 runners in GB and Ire

Haatef      covered 54 ................... 20 runners in GB and Ire

Mount Nelson covered 111 ..................15 runners in GB and Ireland

These sires may have had some runners outside GB and Ire but I don't have the figures to hand.

what happens all the ones that never see a racecourse?
Report The Gotchee November 11, 2012 11:59 PM GMT
Just to clarify, all the horses listed above were first season sires in 2009. All their progeny are now 2 year olds (first crop). It is very likely that a lot more of their progeny will run as 3 year olds next year and a lot more may never see a racecourse.

I fairly sure your mixing up your mares bred figure and live foals figures maybe thats whats causing your view.
Im impressed this lad has some top table 2yr olds and some decent ones on dirt and turf to come aswell.

Big big fan of Henry, look to have absolute bags of speed. One worry is how ground dependant they seem with the bad ground over here. America should not be a problem
