just having a look thro the Tatts foal catalogue and was taken with how many Chesnuts Showcasing has thrown
Firstly how can chesnut emerge from so far back (chesnut surely recessive?) and  if so, what other things does it bring (apart from inability to sell a filly)

I like showcasing (and have put money to support this) but will he be quickly " would nt want a filly"

Arabesque has had a previous chestnut foal (Frequent) so she must have received a chestnut gene through her dam Prophecy from Andaleeb, hidden phenotypically by the 'bay' gene (no such thing really, it's all to do with EE/AA/ee/aa but it's been a long day and I'm too tired to be genotypically accurate).  She has then passed on a chestnut gene to Showcasing along with OD's 'bay gene'.  So Showcasing looks bay but can pass on chestnut.  If he is mated to a chestnut mare there is a 75% chance of a chestnut foal, 50% when crossed to a heterozygous bay mare.

Maybe so many have been catalogued because breeders are keeping the bays and flogging the chestnuts?

Are you a Tatts employee perry? No sign of my catalogue - but hell, I'm only a vendor!

all it took was to put 2012 in for 2011 on the link ;-)

Thanks for the genetics stuff Jez - i had a chesnut Showcasing filly foal from a stallion who has no chesnut back to 4th generation and naturally had a bit of a head scratch working out the chances... if only i could get a yankee up with those odds...
Given the quality of chesnuts in Showcasing pedigree its no bad thing when the set foot on a racecourse but can imagine the market being a bit more challenging
Still like & positive about Showcasing but imagine it may be offputting to some

I've decided to wait before trawling through the pdf of the catalogue as I normally only cherry pick the lots online - and I go through lot by lot on paper whilst eating my porridge!

Also, I have been a bit arrested by the Mullionmileanhour filly. I must be there to try and buy her as a racing prospect Cry

Unfortunately I suspect the vendors may blame her position in the catalogue for her being a no bid filly. Those who've been round the block a little will perhaps suspect different reasons. . .

Doesn't a hetero bay stallion throw a bay gene 50% of the time and a ches one 50% of the tome. Mated to a ches mare who provides 100% ches genes means 50% bay 50% ches.

To a hetero bay mare its then 75% bay 25% ches offspring.
