Loking through Tatts book 1 I was cursing the fact that I didn't have a few spare million as I know the lads on the betfair forum would be able to tell me the ones that become mega stallions in due course. As a poor (but maybe entertaining) alternative I thought a little competition to pass away a few hours could be a good idea!!

The idea is to select 10 yearlings from the book that you think are most likely to make future stallions. This could prove interesting reading in future years as well as giving someone the oportunity for lots of bragging rights.  I suggest we limit it to flat stallions as some of us aren't getting any younger!!! So here goes my choice:
61, 69, 94, 103, 106, 214, 314, 444, 445, 552.

got too say i really struggled finding 10, if i was playing with mega bucks think i would have bought plenty of fillies but only a couple of colts 290 am writing this before 2nd day starts and a cheaper one from day 1 189-65k and but although i have real interest in this am no expert and have my own ideas

is that his fee atm
Report potentialmillionaire October 10, 2012 8:46 PM BST
As we so often say on here cunning, it is a private fee and I imagine there are nearly as many different levels as there are mares. 2013 won't be getting any cheaper that's for sure.
You can take 300 as a ballpark if you like but I really wouldn't guarantee that as factual for a minute.
Report cunningplan October 10, 2012 8:47 PM BST
so how many mares do you have PM if thats not being nosey
Report potentialmillionaire October 10, 2012 10:07 PM BST
fluctuates between 3 and 6 cunning. But when my Galileo filly comes good I'll move it up a bit Laugh.

Well, with Royal Ascot behind us I thought it may be time for an update on the Fantasy Yearling Contest. I have come up with the following scoring system:

10 points for a maiden/first win.
20 points for listed win
30 points for G3 win
50 points for G2 win
100 points for G1 win

these are for 2yo races only, I will consider points awards for 3yo's next year (God willing!)

Cunningplan has opened his account with a maiden win for Supplicant (lot 189) on 5th May at Beverely
and is awarded 10 pts

I'm afraid Lairy Mary and myself have drawn a blank, although LM was unlucky yesterday when Sea The Skies was 3rd at Newmarket.

Well done Cunningplan on your early season lead. Many of the lots have been named and are in training so I expect more activity (and points awarded soon). I will update at the end of August.
Report truehoncho October 9, 2013 11:34 AM BST
Well now seems a good time (late) for an update.

Cunningplan has raced ahead with his only winner Supplicant (a £65k purchase) winning a listed and G2 race scoring him a total of 80pts. Could he make a stallion?

Both Lairy Mary and I have 10pts each with Sea the Skies and Blue Mood respectively winning maidens for us.

From 30 selections we have managed to get just 3 winners (although some may be racing abroad that I can't track). I suppose most will be better as 3yo's but if you can't win at 2 it's uphill for a stallion career. We shall see what next year brings.

If everyone else thinks it's easy and anyone could buy champions if they had the money try it yourself. This year everyone gets £5million and has to buy 5 yearlings from this years Book 1. The object is to buy a yearling that will one day get a berth at stud. Happy hunting!!

Well I guess if we just went for one horse lot 253 would fill the expenses pot then!!!  Can't quite believe a filly went for 5m - I missed her sadly as I had to go and meet someone - bet the atmosphere in the ring was incredible - it was last night.  Back up this evening so I shall go for those I have seen and liked ather than on papaer.  I watched one colt go through for 70k which had the worst front legs and if it stands training I'm a dutchman!

Duly noted Cunningplan! You are currently the one to beat.

Kincsem and Bert, in light of the other thread I am looking forward to your selections.

I will post mine soon.

Oops I just saw truehoncho's comment in the post above.
I just ran through the pdf file guessing like a guesser.
I might as well have been looking into a bush.
In other news I collected my copy of the new General Stud Book today.

just to clear a point truehoncho
is it just 5 horses to pick?
Report truehoncho October 11, 2013 2:32 PM BST
Yes Cunningplan, just 5 for £5m. I spoilt you last year, this time it's far more business like.

Kincsem, in your sheer excitement you have selected far too many.

Lairy Mary, I take it you don't want all your eggs in one basket, even if it is as pretty as lot 253.
