I had reason to try to assess both Kodiac and Moss Vale as comparatively new stallions in recent days. Assessing statistics is one thing and, more obviously, ploughing through on line databases is very time-consuming to arrive at some conclusions. Other sources such as Weatherbys "app" are of limited benefit. I also have the annual Stallion books from the same source and the "dryness" of the bare figures are difficult to assess. In short, informed opinion is scarce.
The opinions I want are on this forum for certain stallions and if some kind soul wanted to keep a regular log, say, starting with the newbies of 2012 it would be a tremendous gesture of public service and worthy of a mention in the Queen's honours list in time.
Standard and number of mares covered, progeny successes, market expectation etc would all be part of the pot-pourri.
I'm sure there must be someone out there looking to keep busy
I am very hacked off Royal Academy that the Timeform Stallion review has been discontinued. The median rating of a stallions winners over a 3year period or so each year was as close as I got to a definitive single measure of merit.
I am not sure anyone can be expected to monitor mare quality and market expectation in a way that we would all agree with though so I think your order may be an incy wincey bit tall. . .

I try to if I have a complete dataset ie post flat season November.
I could look up a retrospective 'number' later but am currently playing poolside wifi in Portugal (in answer to one of the other threads) not a cloud in the sky...

Sageform and I corresponded privately at one time (I hope he won't mind this revelation) because I was fascinated by his faithful maintenance of the monthly stallion stats.
Needless to say the figures of themselves are informative but need a lot of working to arrive at soundly-based conclusions. For example, he mentions in a recent posting that Danehill Dancer's figures spurted (pun intended!) forward in June and this was probably due imo to the unseasonably bad weather.
Specifically last night I was interested in why Ger Lyons might have purchased to relatively cheap Kodiac's last autumn and the best I could come up with was an unraced 2yo, That Boy David, that he had in his care and that has been placed 3 times from 4 starts this term. The stallion also did well as a freshman in 2010 but a view from the "B&B" cognoscenti here would be welcome. Incidentally, both 2yo's ran well tonight to finish second and third with an apparaently more fancied Moss Vale colt (J Murtagh) running poorly.

kodiac is doing alright without the impact his brother had,but he may well improve over the next few years as his best book are now foals, he had plenty of mares over the last few seasons.I too saw the race tonight the Kodiac's ran well enough but didn't the winner look gutsy I like her and connections are delighted I'm told, should be a nice prospect for any stud I'd of thought.
