Hi Alvarado, I will be there so should certainly be enjoyable. The catalogue looks excellent. Some crackers have been taken away from this sale in recent yrs.

Hi Folks,

Interesting the comments on this sale, speaking as a purchaser with limited funds I would think this would be a sale where unless you have very deep pockets there will be little value to be had. I appreciate the comments about previous buys from here but what about the previous six figure purchases that have been disasters.

A friend who had been hoping to go but regrettably through illness cannot had spoken to an agent with a budget of between 20-40k and was given 8 lots to consider,it will be interesting to see the returns. I agree with the remarks on not seeing the sale online.Jst as an addition can anyone out there tell me where the strong Irish Point form is ie courses etc and the not so strong meetings(not to waste time on),may thanks, good luck to all purchasers

thats the most frustrating of them all rcarver seein the horse brought by an agent and having to wait until end of sept to find out who trains them in mark howards book

im not an expert but dromahane is widely regarded as the best point to point track in ireland as is templemore

im a purist so i really only follow the flat but i have been invited into a syndicate for a jumps horse, well connected people and the trainer is also taking a share, so im going ahead with it, for the sport and future connections. we are prob going the goffs sale next month and getting the cat within 2 weeks, im big on pedgrees being such a flat fan but my jumps knowledge is limited, in the message the trainer sent he said that a winning dam is a must but im not too pushed on "winning" and would rate a higher h-cap place or grade runner higher, i would love a  few pointer in such regards.
im also a fan of golden torando but im not sure his best books are 3yr olds until next year¨??
the group would like a chaser more than hurdler and good ground summer horse, any idea?

Hi DMCK,

I'm sorry but you being a purist and your connections looking for a summer chaser doesnt do it for me!! Although I personally hate summer jumping I also see there appears a demand in it from some quarters but hard ground/jumping fences/stresses on legs/going like the clappers ,sorry not for me!! Golden Torando I'm lost there never heard of it,stick to the tried and trusted stallions, decent 1st/2nd and 3rd dam line and away you go !! Best of luck though!!

Stupid prices - Old Kilcash for 300k is laughable.

Soon to be seen in pink colours getting beat by a ex-flat claimer in a novice hurdle at Kelso.  Each to their own but 3 very nice yearlings plus training fees represents more of a 'dream' to me than a Carlisle bumper winner (Fascino).  Strikes me as an evening of port, cigars & co ck measuring.

Just read the RP review of last night's sale. The 310k Milan horse looks like they have paid top dollar for (a) a son on of Milan and (b) a Carlisle bumper winner. Very big and scopey and travelled like a dream when it won but I am surprised by the price. They also bought a Milan for 85k earlier in the night I think. I am sure they are hoping it is not anoter Italian Master (who may still just need time (years in fact)). The nicest looking horses IMO were the Oscar that Rebecca Curtis' partner bought and the Kings Theatre Jonjo bought.

well when i say summer i mean galway races, thas where we'd love a winner. id be more inclined about the 1st and second dam, third is just strectching, golden tornado has really made the most of a very limited op http://bloodstock.racingpost.com/stallionbook/stallion.sd?popup=1&horse_id=6... berties dream being his best runner todate.
my thinking for going for a less well known sire is that we'd get a better specimen for our budget than is we went for a milan or another fashionable sire
Report Allduckornodinner April 21, 2012 12:29 PM BST
Is it the Land Rover sale your going to DMCK? You generally won't go wrong with any sires by Sadlers Wells as a rule. Oscar would be my pick if you got a nice one. They tend not to be the biggest horses so they are often bought cheaper than their pedigree's warrant. Court Cave is another good one. If you can get a horse out of either a Supreme Leader, Roselier, Be My Native or Presenting mare then you could be on the pigs back. These are some of the leading broodmare sires these days.

One stallion I wouldn't be a fan of is Milan (despite his breeding success achieved thus far). I think his stock make a premium that they don't fully deserve. He was heavily backed when he started covering mares and a half bred would gave fired winners off the mares he covered.

Some lesser established sires worth wathcing out for include Darsi, Gold Well and Shantou. It will be much easier to know what you may be able to buy when the catalouge comes out but the above may prove helpful.
