Excellent work Sageform.

Any chance you have a table showing numbers and placings over a comparative (say, three years) period?

What were your highlights for the season?

Stats like this just go to show how unappreciated Bertolini is as a Stallion. Year after year he'd in the top 10 for winners with moderate mares. This year he's again got a couple of really decent 2 year olds.

I wish you could tell the names of the horses for all these winners.   save me a bit of time Cool

Koo, just look at the RP site, bloodstock, stallion book, sire and stud record and they list all the runners by the sire. The ones with 0 wins beside their name in the first column didn't win Happy RA, I can put up a table of the same 20 sires with their wins in 2009, 10 and 11 if you like. Give me a day or so. I agree about Bertolini, he keeps getting winners, but mostly on AW or low grade handicaps.

The clear "winner" in terms of progress is Haafhd who has moved from a run of the mill sire to one of the top 20 and this year will tell us whether the progress will continue. Iceman had a very respectable 2nd season total and should do well with another crop racing. Galileo has always had a high reputation but this is the first year in which he has made the table in terms of number of wins.

Not going to get any new Icemans Sageform.  2011 was his last 2yos.  I sold a nice Virtual this year tho - look out 2013!  Cheers for list production.  Owner breeder for 2.5k Haafhd surely to be considered, cant sell them tho and no, I dont know why.
Report sageform January 4, 2012 6:37 PM GMT
Thanks for that. I am no longer a breeder myself so out of touch with sires that have been exported/died etc.

Thank you very much Sageform. The raw data is no doubt a starting point for anyone interested in the betting side.

I will try to find the time to distil these ingredients into something useful for the coming flat season. I imagine some of the main variables will be:
pedigree
auction price
trip
going
trainer

Steve Taplin's annual is a good starting point for anyone thinking of specialising in this area.

Keep up the good work.

Haathd has been sent to some stud in Shropshire, so any progress he appears to be making, will be lost pretty soon.
Report Johnny_Mustang January 6, 2012 12:16 PM GMT
I'm afraid it's worse than that Black Sam. He's gone to Yorkshire.
Report potentialmillionaire January 6, 2012 5:43 PM GMT
Which begs the question does it not? Are they pleased by that over in Lancashire? Laugh

I might use Haafhd as i like him as a sire, indeed i bought a yearling by him last back end and he looks a smashing sort.
Report sageform January 11, 2012 1:03 PM GMT
The typical Haafhd seems to want a bit of time but they do improve and would be ideal for getting well handicapped...
Report sageform January 20, 2012 5:05 PM GMT
Kyllachy already setting a strong pace in 2012 with 7 wins, Bertolini follows last January strong with 5, Haafhd and a couple of others on 4.
Report Koo.... January 20, 2012 10:44 PM GMT
Dynaformer on 3 as well Happy
