I really don't see him as a national hunt sire at all, plenty of his stock have performed well at 5 and six furlongs. This is purely a speculation based on his location and the reputation of that particular stud. Having said that though, he has covered a few NH mares which is great shame. Regarding his book, you would have to say moderate is perhaps being kind. Had he covered a book of mares similar to Dark Angel, Dutch Art or Red Clubs I've little doubt he would be right at the top of the first season tables. He's certainly having to do it the hard way but the evidence would suggest that if one were to send him a good mare he will not let her down. The 145,000 yearling filly sold this year is the best example of this. IMO a truly, truly underrated sire.

Wasn't the 145,000 yearling the same horse who sold as a foal for 130,000?

I like hi too Gimcrack, but I confess I was considering sending him a NH mare as well as a flat one. I was hoping for a discount for two. Do you think they will reduce his price for 2012? I was told he was avilable for considerably less than his advertised fee last year.

Given my weary cynicism and the number of 'truly truly' ordinary sires that I have witnessed I wouldn't get too excited over Multiplex. He has only 4 2yo's rated over 80 and I can't help thinking that even with bad mares an interesting prospect should be stronger than that. If he covered a book of mares significantly larger he would statistically be boasting 15 winners or so and looking more Amadeus Wolfy in appearance. Mmm?

At the moment, whilst lauding this years 1st season sires for their ability to get winners, I am struggling to assess them in the pantheon of long term prospects. If any of them do make it I am not sure I shall expend too much time thinking Multiplex will join them.

10 winners though, so all is not lost.

theres not much out here in this bracket though is there? anything you go to will have more downs negatives than positives. I am looking for a cheap one so I can spend a bit more on my better mare. With only 10k and 3 to cover its not easy.

It's desperately hard I agree. I have to get Dec sales out of the way before I dare do anything, so I can probably forget the popular 'restricted book' types as I'll be too late. My advice if you do end up trying to book two to a cheapie is to haggle hard, really hard - no harder than that! If a book isn't going to be full and you are offering two mares then you are holding the whip hand and it needn't be 'air cushioned' and you won't be suspended however hard you use it!

Let's hope some latecomers appear on the market to do the cheap and cheerful job. We need a Helvellyn type again this year.

Truehoncho, I don't think they'll reduce his advertised fee for next year but I reckon you will at least be able to half it with negotiation-especially if you were to send two mares. Regarding the NH mare, I certainly wouldn't put you off as I've seen some very nice examples of his from jumping families. Saying that though Queens Revenge, his highest rated 2yr old by RPR, is related to several jumpers and she won over 5 furlongs at the beginning of April. I suppose, this sort of proves what I'm saying about him not being a national hunt sire.

whilst we're talking about bargain basement sires....what is the team's view on Sleeping Indian? is he worth another throw of the dice for a very low fee, or is he dead in the water? i cant make up my mind.

any thoughts much appreciated.

I would imagine that he might move house? He is a useful sire but he has struggled for a breakthrough horse hasn't he. I think when you get to his level there's never going to be a yeah or nay answer is there as we all have to decide what are the problems we can wear the easiest!

i think he does quite well and a bit under rate. but not sure what profile he has with buyers. I am looking for a cheap foal in tatts december sale and noticeed he had few that might turn a very small profit. his fillies do ok at the sales aswell. not sure his fee about 3k i think.

i have seen him and wasn't that impressed with him but others seem to like him. Him and Makfi seem unlikely stallion mates.
