After a decent year on the track, the owners of French-based stallion Kendargent have decided to syndicate him. 80 shares have been made available at €20,000 a pop.
i have no idea if this is value or not, but i would be interested to know if purchasing stallion shares is a profitable exercise. do many come up for syndication? are there brokers dealing with stallion syndication?

I set up a thread on similar lines ref stallion syndication as it was a route I had thought on taking a punt on with in September. In deference to JM'S inside knowledge of Stallion movements (superb his info on same)I checked this fellows stats on the FranceGalop website.8 yo who stopped racing as a 4yo (not a strong pedigree I would suggest or race record either,he was exported to USA IN 2007.Brought back to France I assume 2008.
Has had 89 foals and from 21 races from progeny 6 wins and 9 places, prizemoney and breeders premium 158K euros.Interestingly his 6 winners have come from 3 fillies only runners have been fillies up to date. Currently standing for 1k euros.I'm not in anyway slagging this fellow but 80 shares at 20k a pop= 1.6 million euro, would it be unfair to suggest the value of this fellow would be with the current owners. The figure of 20k for approx 1/80 would interest me but am I kidding myself on that there is better value out there/somewhere/anywhere??

surely there are better options than that? he would have to improve and acheive a considerably higher fee before you can even sniff a profit based on those figures.
If we look at the value end, how much would a Captain Gerrard or Monsieur Bond been worth at the outset of their stud careers? These stared at about 3k, would they have been valued over £1m? I ask because i really don't have a clue. I know nominations can be purchased, but how easy are they to trade?

Like yourself I have no idea about sourcing possible share options to Stallions but as you say the figures for this fellow would'nt add up commercially unleess of course he strikes gold in the next year or so with his progeny. Would love to hear from anyone who has experience of the Stallion route ref share option possibilities

As I understand it, Kendargent will stand for €4,000 live foal in 2012 and your share would entitle you to two coverings each in 2012 and 2013, then one per year thereafter. There's no doubt that being by Kendor out of a Linamix mare, his appeal lies solely in France. And for me, that's the problem. Aside from the two very top stallions in France, UK and Irish breeders rarely support French-based stallions which therefore narrows your options as you will be at the mercy of French buyers. With the best will in the world, I can't see Kendargent yearlings being offered by the dozen at Arqana August (the sales company hardly lets in yearlings by the more-established French stallions at that sale), so for me, they'll only come to market at Arqana October. I think I'd prefer better odds than that.
(This could be an embarrassing thread for me when Kendargents are sales toppers at both Orby and Book 1 in 2014!).
