The annual Bloodhorse Live Foal Report makes interesting reading to an American Racing/Breeding enthusiast like me.
Giants Causeway is once again the busiest stallion with a monsterous 217 mares covered.
Bernardini, 2006 Preakness Winner and Breeders Cup Classic runner-up served 133 mares. A good figure for a stallion who is making plenty of headlines in the States. But a 'relative' stat that really stood out for me was his conqueror in the Classic, Invasor, served just 44 mares. Bernardini's live foal count for the past three seasons reads 103, 103, 98. Whilst Invasor's reads 57, 41, 24 (!).
Jazil won the Belmont in the same year Bernardini won his classic. He covered just 35 mares last season. His live foal count reads 45, 27, 18.
Now, I'm all for limiting stallion books to ensure quality isn't over dilluted; but Jazil and Invasor are being seriously hampered by their association to Shadwell. Whatesmore, what is the point of Shadwell spending big on yearlings when they can't seem to market bona-fide stallion prospects correctly anyway ?

:o Absolutely crazy low numbers for Invasor and Jazil. Jazil stands for only 7.5k I would have thought there would have been massive demand for him one of US dirts prestigious bloodlines. Wheres it going wrong???

I think you could put Sakhee in the same category. Shadwell cannot market their stallions.
