Why dont Ballydoyle have any Montjeu fillies?

Wading (2009 f by montjeu ex cherry hinton) was 2nd at the curragh on saturday. Cherry Hinton is by Green Desert out of Urban Sea so they do have an occasional extremely well bred filly by Montjeu. Montjeu's fillies aren't as good as his colts- he has had only one group 1 winning filly in the Northern Hemisphere (Montare) and by comparison he has 15 colts or geldings win Group 1's!

Cheers Victors,i had a feeling they might have one or two Montjeu fillies but it just recently came to my attention that i very rarely see them,and by reading them stats i can see why they have a lack of Montjeu fillies,thanks for the reply anyway

They have and had.
On the other hand Montjeus weak spot is his fillies. Coolmores advertisements go into overdrive anytime one wins a Blacktype race

is there an exact science as to why he produces top quality middle distance colts but very average fillies?

Seriously though, I don't know what received wisdom is on this matter but I hope someone will have some opinion.

I have always just assumed that the fragile temperament that he imparts is just that bit more difficult to harness in fillies as they tend to be a little less even headed than their male counterparts to start with.

Montjeu filly's are horrible to deal with. Their highly strung and an horror to have for any handler at a stable. Not worth the trouble i would say unless very well bred. In fact the only Montjeu filly's i ever seen at Ballydoyle had really fantastic pedigree's(compared to the rest) case and point cherry hinton

In terms of breeding fillies for the track, if aforementioned is the generally accpted oppinion, I feel there must be a degree of value in them.

On the basis that there is surely no biological reason why this temperamnent should be so, no/yes?, nature/nurture? Blood is blood, but horses, quirkiness yes, but outright obtrusiveness interms of directing them towards their galloping purpose, surely not?, all the time to that degree? enough to smother that residual brilliance enough that the chance ain't worth taking.

I know we have sires of sires, sires of top class colts and broodmare sires, but, to an extent, is it self fulfilling?

Rest assured though, you aren't going to find 5f Montjeu offspring on every corner and I think hell will freeze over before he has a Brocklesby winner.

He is one of the most prepotent sires we have and I don't see why temperamental fillies shouldn't be a fairly reliable part of his make up too. Of course just how likely a happening this actually is will always be cloudy, but just like any negatives in this game, it will be blown up well beyond the actuality!

how does this reflect on his potential as a broodmare sire? do breeders like them? has anyone got one?

Maybe we should have taken the hint,the fact that they have a montjeu fillie in their care would probably suggest they thought she was a bit special,hindsight is a wonderful thing

Cherry Hinton, Wading's dam is a 3/4 sister to Sea The Stars et al. As Cherry Hinton was stakes class herself I can't see that homebred Wading was ever going to be sold to Alan Berry say, OnTheSnaff, so I don't think any great foresight influenced the team when deciding to race her!
