Is it just me or has the market been a little bored by Royal Applause over the last year or so? I feel good proven sires like him are unfairly brushed under the rug in favour of less qualified new stallions. Will Acclamation's recent success put him back in the limelight?

Will Acclamation's success rub off on Royal Applause?

Not really Wilycayote, thing is he has been around for so long everyone knows what level they can expect to achieve with him there's no sort of buzz with him,if you look at the cheaper stallions standing in England like him sires like Compton Place,Piccolo,Kyllachy, they are all at their level never going forward some seem to be going backwards.Others in this slot are the Darley 2 Bertolini and Kheleyf, but with them the perception is only of disappointment,I know plenty of agents don't like Kheleyf due to the fact he gets temperamental stock trainers hate this, and as they have both stood for much higher fees and have come up with nothing of note, their low fees back this up.Of the cheaper sprint sires in the UK there is one stallion who is what I would call an emerging stallion one who looks like he is going to become a very useful sire who gets lots of winners that the trainers like along with real class and represents outstanding value at just 3k,his name is Monsieur Bond.He has had 115/120 mares this year his book has had good mares we ourselves sent him a very nice young mare,The Bond corporation have been first class to deal with and offered a large discount to send the mare we selected.
When choosing stallions always try to look forward and not just go with what's before been popular as the market moves fast, you could end up with something as cold as yesterdays potatoes.

Mon Bond is doing well at a modest fee absolutely but PD you really do have a jaundiced view of mid-market UK stallions which doesnt bear inspection of the facts - by race record or sales.  Just the other day I and well versed others were remarking on Kheleyfs decent season and fact that next season is his best book.  Yet you say hes only disappointing. U not using them doesnt per se make them unworthy.  Thought it unfair before to pin you down but what sires at 5-15k do you rate?  And dont say Acclamation because fees-wise that boat has sailed and I was on it.

Yer Ma

I think Mon Bond is doing very well at a modest fee and can only agree with PD that he is the one to go to in that price range. I think even 5k may be reasonable next yer and it may be more if hoof it wins the Nunthorpe.

I hope your right about Kheleyf as I used him this year (against the advice of PD, but its a shame his 2 year olds at Ascot and Goodwood didnt pick up one of the stakes races. I like Eureka but didnt see the point of running it at Goodwood as it obviously wasnt fancied and looks a decent prospect for next year so why not give it an easier 2 year old campaign?

The lad who looks after the horse at Darley told me that he has had some really decent mares in his last 2 seasons (but i suppose he would say that) and that they are really confident he will come up with the goods in the next couple of seasons.

yer ma,

I said the perception of Kheleyf has been disappointing, and that's true but as you say he does have his expensive crop next year to run so he may be able to turn things around.
But the fact remains that the agents are 'off' him so imo he will need to really turn it in from now on to altar their view,if I'd sent him one when he was standing for 12k atm I'd be feeling rather uncomfortable right now, what did Bertolini ever do with his expensive runners?..........nothing so I for one will be surprised if the bad tempered little sire changes perceptions.I don't know if you have ever used him but I remember you saying that new sire Zebedee was too small, that may be your opinion but one things certain Kheleyf is a bit of a rabbit but unlike Zebedee Kheleyf is fully grown.
Over in the UK you don't have a great list of sires in the 5/15k price bracket, sires like Darley's Exceed and Excel are good commercial choices and others like Medician and Nayef and poss' Juddmonte's Champs Elysees and Zamindar, cheaper ones that have appeal are sires like Bahamian Bounty and Paco Boy but I do think BB is a bit top heavy, you could say the same for his son who stands with him Pastoral Pursuits who imo should be no more than 5k.Equiano Dutch Art Showcasing and Sakhee's Secret all have a slot, but I think for real value for money 'Mon Bond' is about the best.
It may surprise you but some of the stallions in my post above we have used I don't always agree with Slick'n'Smooth she does have stallions on her list to use that I hate, she likes Dalakhani and has had success with him but for me I think he's a stout sire who needs great caution when using, another is the mighty Sea the Stars I have my doubts about him but again we don't agree.I hope you do well with your Acclamation he's turning into a great commercial stallion.I think really the 5/15k bracket is about the hardest to crack its a hard one but though he's not in that range yet Mon Bond is going the right way and is commercial if Hoof it does win the Nunthorpe then I agree with truehoncho 5k looks poss' but still fantastic value.
