IMO,this stallion will end up as a high class jumps sire, typical Aga Khan sire can and will get a few classy flat sorts most likely bred by H.H.In a similar mould to sires like Kahyasi,Kalanisi,Daylami, etc, etc etc.Im sure the jumping boys would love to get him same sire as successful NH sire Midnight Legend as well.

Azamour wasn't really quiet last year jmc27 he covered 140 mares though admittedly only 51 in 2009. He was certainly full in year 1 ( I couldn't get one - but thank god, it would have been a store for sure given the mare I proposed! ) so his 1st crop should have been his best to date. Good enough ?
Prima Donna is right on the money in my humble. . . The jumping studs would consider him about the best prospect going right now, and I reckon they'll get him. 2013 is my guess!

When I said few I was on about the amount of runners PM not his book. 10 runners last two weeks two Grp3 winners, a listed winner and two decent maiden winners maybe with better rides you could add Columbian and Piano :p

jmc27, I was replying to sammyfool and his comments about 'so few foals'
Are you he? And a stallion having few runners from a decent ammount of foals is not a good sign is it.
However it is going his way right now for sure. Him and Tiger Hill!

[smiley:crazy] Sorry keep the knickers on :p
As for a stallion having so few runners without checking Im fairly confident Galileo has probably had less in the last 14 days so....

It's quite incredible where you can find yourself on here when not being very clear and therefore subsequently misconstrued!
Indeed I am at a bit of a loss to know what's going on right now!
My last post referred to my own incompetence jmc which I hope you understood!!
I'm going to head to another thread and try and get my act together

On the subject of Aga Khan horses how well received do you guys think Siyouni will be?
A very good two year old and sharper than your usual Aga Khan horse.
Thoughts?

i believe it will be a long time before u see this horse as a nh stallion especially if hes covering 140 mares at 15 k euro and getting good sales prices and good results on the track.

Aga Khan doesn't do speedily bred Neil D. Midnight Legend ( Night Shift) is one of the classiest NH sires around right now. Azamour ended up best at 1 1/2 miles probably too. He is big strong and nailed on for the NH game unless he really pulls it out flat wise.

Ta Pot, I should have guessed really, but variety is great though isn't it. When people say go NH, is there a possibility he'd get a few flat mares as well? (I presume he will but just not very good ones)what I mean to say is, is the NH tag the death toll for a chance to sire a Derby winner? Is the situation of Kings Best making a comeback with Workforce common?

I think ye're talking about this at the wrong time of the year as really ye're both right but going knowhere with ye're cases
Personally i believe he'll always be a flat stallion as he is firing out winners at the moment and has big quality books to run. Top class on the track and to be honest hasn't been to disappointing so far although a group 1 winner this year is needed and could come as he has a couple of nice sorts.
As for what potm says about him being big strong and nailed on for the NH game unless he really pulls it out flat wise, i think this is true but he is a good flat stallion at the moment so why look on him not doing it when it looks like he can

Neild, It's been noted on here by better brains than mine, that these staying types who are always swimming upstream unless they are superstars, always have the capacity to pull one out of the bag.
It's not so much that Azamour hasn't made it, more that the gods of commerciality are so difficult to please. Kings Best has had his moments and is one of the best bred horse in the world so no surprise that if he still covers, he's still in with a shot.
I agree with the comment of Ripvan that Azamour is going well right now and he may indeed stave off the muddy woolly mares a bit longer or maybe for good - who knows?
I think I said 2013 for his N.H. stud debut. Not sure I want to change that yet. [;)]

Id buy one to do the washing up they're that good. At every sale i go im looking to buy one as they win races, same with Shamardal who've ive just got one from and Ifraaj whom i didnt like as a horse but who simply breeds winners. So those are the ones i look at first

i must have delted the first part, saying i havent seen enough of them in the flesh to build up a picture of how big they are generally, but if they are built for the game then they'd have to sell well as they produce it on the track.

I have seen a few of his Koo.... they are as a rule good looking with plenty of bone.Do any of you remember the good jump sire Oats?I looked at him years ago when he was at Ardenode Stud that stallion later went over to the UK and became a very successful jump sire. At the time when looking at Oats I commented that imo he had all the credentials to stand as a jump sire he was such a good looking stallion with bone and class but a slightly plain head when years later I looked at Azamour his appearance reminded me so much of Oats, funny how things stick in your mind when viewing stallions,I thought then this sire would make a great NH sire if he gets staying sorts, now getting hurdle winners and with the other NH Nightshift stallion Midnight Legend doing so well I feel very sure he will end up in those ranks sooner rather than later

As you know Prima I am in agreement with you over this horse.
But I have a sneaky suspicion that Slick'n'Smooth has probably still got him on her radar? Ridiculous though it seems for a grandson of Northern Dancer he could almost be considered outcrossy these days and I would like to see him succeed with his class and good looks.
His small crops are a problem though but maybe if his results remain respectable relative to those numbers a few will notice and he might cling on. I fear I am crediting the commercial hoardes with too much nouse though.

Sammy, it seems as though you are well named. If that is what you really think then perhaps you would be better served by reading threads and not posting on them. Read through it again and see if you can understand it this time.[smiley:crazy]

Sammy F. It's best not to bring Sadlers or Galileo into the mix when discussing mere mortal horses.
They write there own rules, everyone else lives or dies by a quite different set!

I think that many years ago my oldest friend in the game worked for Slick'n'Smooth, before your time maybe!
We were very tight back then, and mad keen ofcourse, so you retain a bit of interest/memory of what you once 'knew' don't you.
A deep passion for families and pedigrees can't be entirely sacrificed to the God of commercialism so that's why I guessed the Azamour genetic background would remain of interest!

Jeez, yet another reminder of how fast it's whizzing by
Whilst I'm on a nostalgia kick, at about the same time I remember showing a mare to it's owner whilst I was working in a far away land. It was a Hoist The Flag mare, 1\2 sister to a quite notable sire as I remember [;)]. I remember her being quite a masculine muscular mare with a lovely dapple to her.
Small world. Funny what comes around hey.

I seem to remember said mare was turned out at the time with a marvellous old mare (not connected to you particularly) who was the dam of 2 champions who were both leading sires. Now on looks you would never have her in the same parish let alone on your farm!
Now there was also a daughter of Northern Dancer out of a Vaguely Noble mare there who was a real favourite of one of the staff (long moved on). And of course they used to pony these mares in from a truck, for the vet say (large paddocks, lazy staff). The reason for this favouritism was that this mare was the supreme galloper by the side of a truck if I remember! I fear that might be a story best not told (your call Prima!!)

Long time ago Pot M,no recriminations from me! Though don't know if her loving owner would be so pleased to know her mare was racing against a truck!Still with all women what they don't know wont hurt them......just whisper it to me!

I doubt there are any more memories like that Prima. Ofcourse not being a great Statesider I do remember quite a lot about our European borders as they were the ones of interest to me back then.
I can only remember one other mare - by N.D. too- of connection but no stories on that one!

I can see where people are coming with the NH point but he is getting decent flat horses actually he has a decent strike rate over all distances with his runners. They seem to sell well too considering afaik his owner hasnt been one of his buyers at the sales

Aga horses who suceed at shorter trips have that bit of class and substance about them don't they, breeding to race, cannot go wrong here, even if that is not the issue being discussed.

I agree Neil d. Plenty to like about such a horse and we should be all be on board when an Aga horse heads back in a direction nearer to the area which mere commoners occupy.
He's got to keep his profile high and his a.w.d. low and then maybe, just maybe. . .
