I know nothing at all about breeding and I thank you all for your interesting posts on other threads on this forum but I thought i would ask the above question.
As she comes from Oasis Dream does this make her a commercial viable option when she retires? If this is the case who would you pair her off with?
If not can you explain to me why should would not be viable?
When selecting a potentially successful brood mare you have 3 main criteria.
1 Racecourse ability
2 Pedigree (Ma, Pa, and how 'aristocratic' their lineage)
3 Confirmation (Physical beauty and strength)
Everyone places different emphasis on these three points and there will be the biggest divergence when one considers a commercial breeder (i.e. breeding for the sales ring) and the owner breeder (i.e. purely looking to race the offspring)
I am no expert on Midday's confirmation (indeed I am no expert on anything really) but her Sire, Dam, ancestry and race record put her firmly in the top 0.5% of broodmare prospects anywhere in the world right now.

jlay72, Potentialmillionaire's above points are correct, with the exception of 'confirmation' it should be 'conformation'[;)]sorry pot m I always notice that in your posts!

Agree with both PM and PD about Midday as a broodmare. I must say I think that PM's shout that she is in the top 0.5%, or say the top 5 out of 1000, broodmare prospects is a brave one.

Thanks for that guys - so my next question would be if she was to mate with a horse who would be a suitable candidate? Would in future a horse like Sea The Stars be viable? Twice Over? Galileo.....

Breeding Midday to Sea The Stars would create a 3x3 cross to Green Desert (ie they share grandparents). While this is acceptable it would not be recommended as Green Desert tends to perpetuate small feet and small individuals, so inbreeding close to him would increase the chance of creating these traits.
I would suggest breeding to Galileo. Mainly because he is the best stallion about but also because both parent's forte is over middle distances and it would create a 4x4 cross to Mr Prospector which is very successful.
Twice Over!....he'll struggle to get winners bred to him, let alone Gr 1 winners.

Equimine, I am not sure how many racehorses there are in training the world over or how many of them are fillies. Midday though was rated the 4th= best of her sex in the world last year so that pushes her racing credentials a lot higher than my 0.5%! Her pedigree keeps her competitive too so I am trusting her confirmation to not let her down. I think in a sales situation she would be in the top 5 at any breeding stock sale anywhere.
Thanks for my spelling lesson Prima, you should've mentioned it earlier I feel a right t1t now
I wouldn't worry too much about S the S to Midday. I don't think either are particularly 'true' representitives of Green Desert and I think the risk of throwing back to his undesirable traits is slight. Best to the Best does bring one to Galileo and there are plenty of other reasons to go that route too.

Well if she was mine she would NOT be sent to Galileo, being out of a mare by Kingmambo you have plenty of stamina there so I'd send her to either Danehill Dancer or Fastnet Rock, as to my mind a dash of Danehill is always good and with a mare with none of it why avoid it?After all it is the best sire line by miles.

Surely if they considered a Danehill line stallion it would be Dansili regardless of how much stamina he passes on. I would go to Galileo with her if its classics that is wanted

Yes I think if THEY use a Danehill sire then of course THEY would use Dansili, but we were asked what would WE use on her,Galileo on her would be imo a sure way of getting a stayer,DD of F,Rock you may get a GNS winner or GR1winner over shorter.

Yes I agree if its the Derby you want to win then Galileo is the obvious choice, but Dansili too could get you that result,I happen to think that a colt by Galileo out of her would go on and stay the St.Leger trip, its easy to forget just how much stamina is in Oasis Dreams family combine that with Kingmambo then add in Galileo now perhaps you can see what I'm saying. I'd rather breed a faster sort with her than a slower one so I'll stick to my choices above. But if I was planning to sell as a yearling then sure Galileo would be No1 on my list.

I think I wouldn't be totally terrified of a slow boat from Midday. She's truly effective over 1 1/4 and I think she could win a weak fillies Gp1 at a mile. For a Derby winner, Montjeu would be a fine starting place too although you could kiss the Guineas goodbye.
Obviously jlay you would only breed colts ! but if you ever change your mind and fancy a filly then I think Pivotal would be a great place to get you an Oaks winner. He likes Danzig and Mr Prospector very much and top class fillies are his forte.
I think you would get too much of a stayer by Dansili as fine sire though he is he just lacks the class of a great one perhaps (still time, I know) and I don't see the point in getting hung up with a Danzig duplication if you can avoid it.

Now that brings another question from me. I'm a potential owner looking to buy a filly bred to win me the Guineas and top 1m races and I want to send it ot Henry Cecil.
What would you suggest a suitable match? Also does the trainer matter? Meaning how important is it for the trainer to maybe have one of the sires/family trained by them tou understand to best train them (if that makes sense?)
