good event.

but I thought Captain Gerrard was showing the effects of a hard season in Australia.
Report Prima Donna February 4, 2011 9:08 PM GMT
I too thought Captain Gerard looked race fit from what I could see of him, wonder what's happened to Richard Kent's Indian stallion man who had him last year?See his very smart Multiplex stallion man's shirt all out in the ring............still both Mickley sires looked well in their coats. The new Shadwell sire looked 'orrible!

i liked myboycharlie and equiano

showcasing bit plain ,same as captain gerard-plain and smallish - would it be coming from there sireline?

sammy-fool

My Boy Charlie is a nice looking sire but he's not maybe fantastic,Equiano is good looking too but has been said l lots of times on here he is about the worst walker you will ever see. That is a major factor when it comes to selling stock by the said stallion.
As for both Showcasing and Captain Gerard looking plain........well its good we all have differing views as imo when talking about those two the word plain would never enter my thoughts,as both have plenty enough quality by any standard, granted Captain Gerard is not the biggest sire ever but he's also not the smallest,as you ask about the sire line yes Green Desert is small along with plenty of his sons.Showcasing was about the most talked about stallion in NMKT the other day most like him and think he has a great chance...........unlike the new Shadwell boatMischiefperhaps it may surprise some on here to know just what his outfit really do think of both him and his chances especially his owners view,a point that would need serious thought if they plan to sell to the owners as wrongly holding the view that the owner will support all his stallions.
Hellvelyn looks a nice looking sire was bigger than I can remember he has a real masculine face which is good as we don't want entire's looking like filly's,surprising the amount of interest I did hear he has over 50 mares booked.Breeders could do a lot worse looking for cheap speed.

I'll have to admit to being biased now but couldnt say Showcasing plain and given he's just turned four with no years at stud then comparison to CG or other 6+ year olds is diffult

Thanks to everyone posting comments on here about the Stallion Parade. It is both useful and at times  quite amusing. I too would have said that Equiano tends to plain before Showcasing, but as Prima Donna says, it wouldn't do if we all agreed.

With regard to Mawatheeq, I will still be amazed if Hammy doesn't send out instructions to buy the best few out there by him (if they are sufficiently likeable, and I bet one or two will be). I am quite sure too that most of his flunkies will be luke warm as for them he is assuredly a difficult sell right now. I think given the size of their pay cheques they ought to be a little more discreet with their opinions though. If the boss dislikes the horse that much I think surely a berth elsewhere outside the operation would have been the chosen option as even he would have guessed that a cash cow Mawatheeq will not be right now.

I'm glad you liked Hellvelyn Prima as I had a sneaky feeling about him. I wonder too whether another 'favourite' on here Paco, would give Equiano's walk a run for his money Laugh

No I think its more of a case that 'they'thought he was going to be very good..........only he was at best moderate so they don't want to loose face so have decided to stand him at a 'chuck away fee'he may do it but I along with his connections doubt it somehow! But still we will have to see how it goes and just what sort of stock he gets.
Hellvelyn stands near you I'm sure,it seems the girl who worked for David Redvers has him at her stud I also understand two of the industry biggest would be movers and shakers the Trickledown brigade are financially involved or may in fact own the stallion.
Report potentialmillionaire February 6, 2011 8:11 PM GMT
You may say 'would be' movers and shakers Prima, I couldn't possibly comment Devil

Yes Roisin Close has got Hellvelyn and time alone will tell how she's going to get on in that mighty tough sphere. However she is a grafter, a horsewoman and thoroughly likeable too so I hope she gets lots of support.
Report Prima Donna February 7, 2011 11:03 AM GMT
Thing is potentialmillionaire is she going to get support from you?She seems to have made a big impression with you,you obviously like her very much.Anyone starting out in this game certainly now the way the markets are esp'for this sort of sire needs all the help they can get,now we may see just if those two 'would be' movers and shakers really are just that,as at the moment they only come across as 'try hard's'for that sort of person image seems to be very important.I have never met Redvers ex groom but yes it will be nice to see her make a success of her new venture, lets hope success does not change her like those 'movers and shakers'have both changed, her more than him.

Once upon a time many years ago, I worked under the one would be M & S.

She had a lot of good points -, a great practical strength for one - but I would say that she had plenty of todays traits back then too! Not the easiest and your face needed to fit ( I'm good at working those sorts so I had no probems and learned a lot) But I do sometimes think they  haven't learned a lot  . . . why have they never taken their set-up upmarket if they are so good? Why still 520 day 1 foals at Dec sales?

I really have very little chance of using Hellvelyn I'm afraid. I have a smallish all quality 3yo filly who I can't afford to race - she coughed all last season when I could (and that's why I can't!) by a bad sire and a weakish page. Can she do a stunning foal? I don't know, she might/might not but she surely is a mare to move away from the game right now although I am persevering with her mother for now. She is my only Hellvelyn prospect. I am however encouraging friends to use him as their mares are old and dodgy but have some positives which might help the stallion out and my friends are wealthy enough to race any offspring that the commercial industry deem no goers.

Wonderful couple Plain?

'She' is the only woman my normally composed and demure wife has threatened to 'deck'.  Pure numbers game to them as far as I can see but what do I know.

please feel free to interchange "mover & shaker" with "ego on legs".

Sounds like there are plenty of people who cant stand this little 'upstart'ego on legs I once said "her head is so far up her ass if she opened her mouth see would see out"DevilI wont change my view!

phoenix reach??? did he look any good?
Report Prima Donna February 9, 2011 1:29 PM GMT
Yes Phoenix Reach is a nice quality stallion but that's where his attraction ends I'm afraid, horses with his profile are always commercially onto a looser. If you want to race the resulting foal yourself then if you like him take the chance, but if you want to sell at either a foal or yearling then give him a very wide birth!
