Has your Darley 'novel' arrived this morning truehoncho?
Mine has and I've been wondering on similar lines
I've been ice cold on him as the market is too. However the stallion books prod us into a little research don't they. I'll have a look and I hope you have prompted others too!
Later. . .

I did read the Darley spin, but I also noticed the 2010 covering stats in International Thoroughbred and these looked pretty good. A relatively high number of winning and black type mares for a cold stallion.

I've got a colt foal - lovely so far but he's got a nice family to back him up otherwise I might struggle. Done little wrong (other than no WOW horse) but as PotM says he's undoubtedly cold - lot of pedigree for 4k mind you, Green Desert n all.

I had a 1st crop filly by Kheleyf who was showy but rather ordinarily put together in truth. Back then though times were easier and she was a profitable filly but an ordinary runner. Could've won but didn't, a true reflection on her quality really.
He certainly did get folks a little hot under the collar after that 1st crop and people were a bit Invincible Spiritesque were they not. However he has since shown that to be a little wide of the mark, but, he has got some well bred types to come.
I am up s**t creek right now with many a hole in my paddle so with only a few mares he is too risky for me. If I had a larger portfolio and could spread my risk more then I think I would give it a bit more thought as he does get plenty of 2yo winners and perhaps those quality mares could turn things round - for a while at least?

thanks for the comments. I tend to agree with you both. I have Medicean mare I am looking to spend about £5k on. As Yer Ma said he hasn't done much wrong and a couple of decent ones over the next couple of seasons may make him cheap at £4K. I'm not convinced there is much else about in this price range at the moment.

I decided to go with him. Prima Donna is always banging on about negotiating on here, so I did and got him for £3k.
thanks for your responses

This sire has a similar profile to Bertolini, who stood for about 10/12k but Bertolini is still popular with trainers Kheleyf is not,his stock tend to have tempers a bit like him.At 3k you could take a chance as you are going to do so but myself I'd leave well alone he's done alright but not really set the world on fire. But well done for negotiating!

It doesn't seem so long ago I posted this. Time is merciless.
Filly foal today(her and my first). Not in the new foaling box installed with CCTV on a bed of soft clean straw, but at the bottom of the field when turned out for an hour after the rain passed over. Still, mother and foal doing well.

Well done truehoncho. They like to make fools of us - and often !
Maidens are particularly unreliable in their foaling habits and are difficult to read on many an occaision.
Mind you I love a daytime foal out in the field. Far cleaner for a newborn and far cleaner for those of us that wield the fork and barrow!

Thanks PotM, as you say it was at least very clean!
However I have to say that I have just noticed I have posted another ridiculously inaccurate message. In my defence, I did edit my original effort heavily and somehow got a rather salient point hopelessly wrong.
It was a colt!

PotM, you will be pleased to know (or maybe you wont) that I have been released into the community providing I continue with the medication!
My foal is down on his rear pasterns. Is it a problem at this stage?

Everything's a potential problem truehoncho, but then everything at this stage can massively improve too! You'll have to wait and see, but I wouldn't worry about a slack hind leg right now, there's plenty of time.

Well with luck truehoncho another colt would be great...two colts by those two sires that's something to look forward too, fingers crossed for you also if you are going to Ascot.

Well done truehoncho. I too have been finished for about 10 days now and I'm just waiting for a bit of better weather so I can turn the foals out and take some time off!
Did your earlier colt strengthen up behind okay?

Well done truehoncho,a bay filly by him I could easily live with,he's one of the sires I'd not mind a filly by as his daughters are good.Ladies Are Forever runs in a listed race tomorrow at Nottingham.lets hope she wins....and lets hope Hoof it wins next week!

Thanks PotM, yes the foal is looking much better thanks. He is really doing well.
I am satisfied with what I got this year PD.Many thanks for everyone's advice.
I intend to sell the Kheleyf colt as a foal and hold on to the filly. I suppose it worked out ok really as the colt is an April foal and should be of interest to pinhookers.
If the filly rears well, I might even put her in training. She hasn't cost me too much and with MB on the up she might be one to take a chqance with.

That's a good idea truehoncho, selling filly foals is very risky esp' a late foaling date one and one in the cheaper end of the market. But Monsieur Bond does get good sorts so maybe you could review it next year and then think about selling it as a yearling and lets hope Monsieur Bond does enhance his promise then if the filly does grow on and is nice then you would have a market for her.Just out of interest who would you send her to?

There are some tip top trainers up north nowadays aren't there. Are they still by and large cheaper than their southern cousins? Because some of them are every bit as good that's for sure.

If he is going to do 'really well' truehoncho he certainly needs to turn it in from now on.He needs some class and quickly otherwise he's going to fade fast in terms of remaining commercial,Breeders have given him the benefit of the doubt so far and his sale results have invigorated the interest in him,but now he has to deliver and from what he has shown this year I'm left like you wondering if the momentum behind him will be a stark contrast to last year.

Whilst I rejoice for you on Kheleyf's success on Saturday at the other end of the scale my moderate Kheleyf ran his poor heart out on Sunday/Monday at Hamilton in truly desperate ground to finish second on both occasions. I know this sour grapes but on Sunday beaten by a Jessica Harrington running in the UK for the first time backed from 14/1-7/1 and today by a horse that was withdrawn yesterday in the same race my fellow finished second to the Harrington one. Oh woe is me!!
By the way my trainer likes Kheleyf progeny but says they have temperamental traits which he doesnt mind,as long as the engine is there!!

I was flabbergasted when I noticed that Kheleyf had sired the winners of 2 such competitive handicaps on the same day, and in that ground. Tbf, Captain Ramius has always been a genuine stick, and as for Mass Rally, well he had finally had his day.
Good job I'm not a layer, or else Saturday could have been an expensive day...
Hope WL has better luck next time.

Keith tells me he is bucking and squealing this morning, rude health considering, looking at two possible races next week at same venue, fingers crossed for a piece of good luck this time!!

Kheleyf has done well in the last month or so and his results at Ayr were great for him. Lets hope one or two of his 2 year olds can get a result in the back end group races to top off a good season.
My colt foal will be going to the Tatts foal sale so every good result will help.
