I've been researching him now for a while and he's really caught my eye. He looks a small bit backward but was a champion juvenile then an excellent 3 year old which is very hard to do. He comes from a nice family and is standing at a very reasonable price. I believe that Sea The Stars took a lot of the hype away from this stallion evening thought his success came after New Aprroach covered his first book of mares. When you look at the races he won and how he was better at two he is a very good horse to stand at that reasonable price. It will be interesting to see how his first foals will sell

Not supposed to be much of a looker from what I've read, Ticks the other boxes as they say though.

Covered 136 mares in his first season, but one thing I noticed is a lot of those mare belong to Darley and Rabbah. When you look at him he is a nice sort but I agree with Rip Van's point he does look a little on the backward side,he does come from a speedy family so you can hope he will get fast early sorts that hopefully will go on and improve at 3.
Some of his foals can be a touch on the big side but overall nice sorts,30k does not look over expensive but perhaps his fee for next year will drop we shall see after the sales, but saying that his first foals should sell well,I wonder if his owners outfit will support him this year? Will their lack of support for other Darley sires this year put people off using expensive Darley sires or will it make more buyers think they are with a real chance of getting a nice one, will this then spread the stock around more and not so reliant on Bin Suroors results.
A decent sire prospect worth a punt,I'm sure breeders how have foals by him will be watching the runners with eagle eyes of Teofilo.

Well i'd much prefer to use New Approach than Teofilo because i've looked into them alot recently and dont see Teofilo getting very good two year olds but could make a classic sire. Do you think PD would they switch New Approach with Teofilo which would give Irish breeders a good chance of using New Approach
Report Prima Donna August 30, 2010 6:56 PM BST
Rip Van,I too doubt Teofilo will get early sorts, looking at him he does not look that type to get them, and yes I would think there is a chance we will get the chance to use NA next year let UK breeders use Teofilo, they seem to move them around a lot that outfit, but thats not such a bad thing as it gives all breeders a chance to use them, reckon NA will come down in fee next year maybe 20/25 euros, but I do think they will sell well later on.

a derby winner who came 2nd in both Guineas to the champion miler that year abd 2year old champ and as RVW said STS took some gloss off him. despite the Darley backing NA has J S Bolger pioneering his cause on these shores and surely Godolphin  will have sorted out who their main trainer is, can only see him being a success

I think I've said before. A bit too clumsey in my eyes. Not very likely to get you a 2yo.
Report RipVanWinkle August 31, 2010 7:44 PM BST
Why clumsy?
Report potentialmillionaire August 31, 2010 8:23 PM BST
Thanks for showing up my spelling Rip Van!!!
I saw him at Dalham out of training and that's just where I was with him really. Just a bit well, clumsy!
I think I like the Danehill influence on Teo a bit more, though I seem to be in a minority of one on that one.
In the Darley brochure the opening page of N.A is a picture of his hind leg and it doesn't say neat to me.
Good pedigree, great sire, terrific racehorse. A pretty good place to start though despite my misgivings.Cool

Pot M,just out of interest do you think Teofilo will get early sorts?Does he look the type for that?
Report potentialmillionaire August 31, 2010 8:50 PM BST
I'm not holding my breath for the Brocklesby Prima Laugh
I do think they'll come to hand quicker than the New Approaches though and perhaps by a margin.
I don't expect them to be that early but then you think of how the Yanks manage to wind up the progeny from all those great big goats they stand, so who knows?

but then you think of how the Yanks manage to wind up the progeny from all those great big goats they stand

Goats! we don't stand goats do we ?(I am a 'Yank')GrinI'm not sure what to make of Teofilo will he do it?big horses are hard to keep right after all his racing he could not go on,he could get fragile sorts imo.

Apologies for any offence Prima (but I know you're thick skinned!)
I'm probably a bit outdated really, but I just remember all the Fappiano's and Slew's, Cox's Ridge etc. Has the Coolmore/Darley influence shrunk them a bit more these days?

Dynaformer gets big horses - but a lot of his bigger offspring end up over here.
Report Prima Donna August 31, 2010 9:18 PM BST
Don't worry Pot M yeah sure I am very thick skinned some would say just thick,I was only joking its a good point about the US stallions they were always big but now maybe more like ours.

Something that you may not know Rip Van is that New Approach is a rig, that may explain his lack of fertility and why they stopped covering on his first season.
the fact his is a rig is something you may have in your mind if you get a colt,as rigs can and do pass that on to their foals.Mind you saying that some stallions have also been rigs and have gone on to be very successful, always worth having in your mind if you do use him.

Thanks for that Prima. I heard he had a problem in the spring but I didn't know what it was (if so) but it does help to know. Do we know the extent of his % figures?

Hope your trip was successful.
Report Prima Donna September 12, 2010 9:03 PM BST
Pot M, No I don't have any % figures sorry, and the trip was a great success thanks, always good to be back home but also great to be 'back home'as you guys say!
