Is it just co-incidence or has the number of French bred flat winners at the top French tracks fallen sharply recently. I have been looking at results from Deauville and most of the winners and placed horses are by Irish or UK based sires.

sage,

In my opinion the French breeding industry, on the flat at least, is going through one of those inevitable positions where they currently have a relative lack of proven product due to retirements and deaths. Thus they are having to consolidate and then move on in the next few years.

The under link might be of interest for the future.

My feeling about the lack of French breds is confirmed by a look at the runners in the two big races at Deauville today. French sires not represented.
