I am sure there is a strain of this somewhere but to save going back. . . Are we all going to pile in? Not a very current pedigree, ditto sire! His sales price suggest a good sort? - comments please -. Northern Dancer lite, Danzig,Nureyev,Sadlers,Mr P,Roberto,Sharpen Up,Blushing Groom free.
    Lots of thought provocation, surely?

I think CC will be a good prospect for using first time around he surely will be commercial the Hannon factor will help,he is the sort that I could see getting cheaper Danehill line mares.Could the outcross aspect be overall detrimental to his long term use,as though we all say we like a outcross stallion do we really especially when we come to sales?
We could find that when we sell yearlings by him agents may be a bit cold on him, after all Tagula has gone cold in his latter years, its silly really a horse with his form but look at other good horses with 'unusual'pedigrees like Cockney Rebel,Sir Percy, and Firebreak, its a up-hill battle with them all, if any of those 3 were by Danehill Dancer or Green Desert mares would have flocked to them.At a price CC is a stallion that we ourselves would consider.

Interesting thoughts. I agree with you about the trendy sire lines, but I don't know what the buyers will think when they start seeing foals/yearlings with 3 lines of Danehill 2 of Green Desert and 4 of Sadlers, coupled with the resultant cleft feet and 3 ears! Facaetious ofcourse, but who knows what little unsoundnesses may creep in that they grow tired of.
I try to keep a good eye on my matings to ensure that the mares stay a bit more outcrossey and can therefore go down the trendy sire route without the offspring being tightly inbred. I do think to this end you need to take a chance on these more outcross types every now and then as I find that fortune often can favour the brave! One aspect that works in your favour commercially is ofcourse not having 300 others by the same sire around come sale time, all looking for a home. I've had favours done to me by Compton Place, Nayef, Medicean, Robellino, Trade Fair, Distant Music Intikhab etc. either in the ring OR on the track - and I see them both of equal importance - and ofcourse the list of 'trendy' failures is extensive too!! So I have high hopes for my Sir Percy (one day!) and will too consider C.C. - but he must be a stunner!

The female side of the pedigree is pretty weak with neither the dam or granddam having won a race.

I agree with the previous poster who said that being on his first crop could be an angle but for reasons of fashion independent of the facts you could see him going quite cold

perhaps his stud debut maybe postponed for this very reason  - think Paco Boy (same trainer/diff owner) who is a multiple group one winner showing exellent consistency into his fourth season

Looks like Coolmore are going to secure his services after he races at 4. He should get a very good chance of proving himself at stud now once hes not pitched to high.

Good move by Coolmore I'd say, just wonder will they have the final say on where he goes this term?could any race against Rip Van Winkle over a mile be in doubt now? That of course does depend on what Rip's plans are, with them they will want to give him every chance so sure to stand him at a realistic fee and get plenty of mares into him,he might be priced along with Excellent Art at 17.5k if he wins the QE2 and goes on next year.

Coolmore have got some nice outcross stallions for there mares now which was badly needed. They are offering good stallions with different bloodlines to irish breeders
Report A_T August 30, 2010 9:30 PM BST
I hope they don't take him out of the QEII to clear the way for Rip Van Winkle.
Report RipVanWinkle August 31, 2010 12:39 AM BST
I've been looking at it and the big boys could come good

Starspangledbanner going for sprint races in France, America and possibly Hong Kong. Abbeye might be to stiff for him though.
Rip Van Winkle going for Irish Champion Stakes and Breeders Cup Classic
Fame And Glory going for the Arc
Cape Blanco could go for the Champion Stakes at Newmarket after contesting at least two more Group 1's
Canford Cliffs going for the QEII,Foret and anything after that is a bonus.
St. Nicholas Abbey is goign to run in the Arc i suspect
They also have two Leger horses in Joshua Tree and Mida's Touch
Lillie Langtry and Remember When will contest races like the Matron Stakes, Prix de l'opera and a Breeders Cup race

It could be possible for them to seperate all the top horses. I could be way off on the plans not big into that side of racing.

Rip...

Any opinions on a horse called Flying Cross?. Being bred out of a oaks winner i like to think he could make it at stud even if he is by a OAP. A potential Cup horse next year maybe along with Clearwater Bay. But as people have mentioned above they have to add variety to their ranks and 2 boats by Sadlers Well may not be the answerCry

Flying Cross is a horse that i was really looking forward to for this season and i'm surprised he came out so late. I'm a big fan of Diesis mares and on top of that she's a multiple oaks winner. He could turn out to be a top horse but he would not be commercial at stud although his pedigree is top class. Could turn out to be one of there better staying horses next year if he keeps progressing. I'd be more looking forward to Ramrumas colt by Danehill Dancer whos in training with Wachman its a cross that has worked well before.

I've got a young mare by Diesis Rip Van. Any chance of you coming up with the Danehill Dancer nom and we'll share? Laugh
It does give you 3x3 to Sharpen Up so we may be looking for a drop of rain!

I suppose I should keep mum on that one Rip in the interests of anonymity, I don't want Prima Donna hounding me at the sales [;)]
She's commercially covered to hopefully a good cross but not Danzig line.
It's funny that I didn't end up Danzig as she is emminently suitable and I assumed she would never go any other route. However you know how it as when push comes to shove and budget gets in the way the choice of suitable mate suddenly gets surprisingly narrow.
