Dubawi is looking likely to become a very successful sire. He managed 31 wins in UK in 2009 despite not getting off the mark until June and Ostentation became his 6th win of 2010 following Hacienda yeserday.
Both have made excellent starts to their stallion careers-too early to say who will fare better, but my money would be on Dubawi given the link to Dubai Millenium - Darley & Godolphin are surely going to send some of their best mares to him.....
Either way looks like Darley may be bridging the gap to Coolmore although they have a long long way to go.

Very closely matched between Dubawi and Shamardal, lets see what happens to their next few crops. I remember Fasliyev getting off to a brilliant first season then not much else in the following years. Still both have Classic pedigrees and the future looks bright. Will be interesting to see what their stamina index settles down at. Is Dubawi likely to be more an influence for speed ?

My first impressions are that Dubawi will be more of an influence for speed, but thinking about it I have a feeling both will get a fair few decent horses between 1m-1m2f. What do you think? Did they both arguably stay 10f???

I think Shamardals progeny will progress better with age and this year will see some good sorts that havent really been great two year olds.Darley will send some better mares to Dubawi and More so to Teofilo and New Approach now. It's hard to know really but that would be my looking at it i'm a fan of Shamardal

Dubawi is from the Mr Prospector sire line ( i think ) so i expect him to be more of an influence for speed . Althought Sharmdal is from one of the faster N.Dancer lines in Stormbird, that usually dont get 1m4f horses.

Dubawi is by Dubai Millenium out of a mare by Deploy so full of stamina on the dam side. Dubai M. was by Seeking the Gold out of a Shareef Dancer mare so more 12 furlong form on the granddam side there. They should be ideal 10-12 furlong horses once they mature.

I think he ran a cracking race in the Epsom Derby, but really dont think Dubawi stayed the trip. The more I think about it, the more convinced I am they will be most effective over a mile-maybe 1m2f.

On the Dubawi/Shamardal debate, I'll come clean and say I wasn't a massive fan of either as sire prospects but they have covered a lot of mares including some very good (boycott led) ones. I think that they had to do well because of this and the results are encouraging. Particularly interesting to compare their European exploits with Antipodean equivalents. Anyway, the real plus is an escape from Danzig - however briefly!

Dubawi's greatest asset is his late father Dubai Millennium who is Sheikh Mohammed's favourite where his racing career was stage managed by Godolphin (inc avoiding Shamardal) and presumably he will be given every assistance to be a champ sire via the Darley machine
That said, both are very promising young sires (both with gp1 wins at 2 and 3 years, and similar beatings of Oratorio in GP1s) and offering decent value alternatives to the danzig line stallions - and at this stage, whats not to like

Early days I know, but Sheikh Mo must be thrilled with the start Dubawis made. Comfortably leading 1st season sire by winners last year, and now his quality progeny is really beginning to shine.

Hopefully this the start for Shamardal as i think he will be better than Dubawi we have a mare scanned in foal to Shamardal and we have a foal this year by him.

Aah Rip, the never ending thinking that one sire will be better than another, so heavily influenced by the money we have tied up in them! Why do we do it! Foals on the ground and stallions used this year by me are currently running at 33% euphoria 33% currently satisfied and 33% wrist slitting territory. What I wouldn't do to try and improve those ratios. . .

Can`t help but be impressed with Dubawis progeny. I never won a penny on him as a racehorse but I`m making up for it now! Going places. Anyone else notice the quirk of yesterdays win for Makfi? Exactly 5 years after his father won and 10 years after his grandsire. Perfect symmetry.

Looks like this stallion is getting a fee rise next year as you could imagine he has done very well,no firm fee yet but 60/65k has been spoken of,I was expecting 50k,Iffraaj staying over here next term a rise likely 10k imo keeps him looking value anymore he's a big risk sire, can't help but think sires are still too expensive,if breeders are to have a chance. Rip Van Winkle is now retired they will be very aware their stallions have not sold well this year so I hope he will stand at a realistic level,if he was mine 17.5k gives us a chance of a return.

Off a median of £56,000 for this year's yearlings, I don't see anyone making money by going to Dubawi at £60/65k next time around. I think £40k would be the top end.

I agree Black Sam,Darley must think that because Oasis Dream and Dansili stand for that amount then they can follow Juddmonte's lead with Dubawi. I think you can make money even at 65k but as always it will come down to the mares he gets, top mares top money middle mares she will have to get a great looking foal/yearling to be in with a chance of a return, once again it looks like high fee's for next year all round.

I don't have a firm view on stallion fees but based purely on number of winners, Dubawi is the best second season sire since I started keping records 30 years ago.

Thanks. If you have read my many posts, you may know that I keep a spreadsheet of GB wins updated daily apart from holidays with separate monthly and annual totals for every sire that has sired a GB winner in the last 2 years. I know there are more races than ever, that sires produce more progeny etc. but Dubawi with 90 so far and a good chance of 100+ along with his other wins abroad compares with Oasis Dream who managed 68 in his second year and is currently on 96 in this his fourth.

Reckon both of these stallions are the future and sons of both of them should be both popular as well as being very commercial, saying that mind can't help but think Makfi is far to expensive at 25k. Both Dubawi and Oasis Dream are riding the crest of the wave atm, when their sons have their first runners then we will see what class of sires of sires those two turn out to be,my money is on Oasis Dream as of the two he is from the better producing family, always a good plus indicator when assessing stallion potential.

Dubawi Heights won the Fillies Grade One in America last night, another Grp 1 winner for Dubawi. Judging from their stud fees Dubawi and Shamardal are both closely matched at stud.

One year on and neither Dubawi nor Shamardal are anywhere near to their 2010 total of UK wins. Could be all sorts of reasons- less progeny racing here, last year's good horses handicapped out of winning chances etc. but the stats are not nearly as good as Exceed and Excel for instance.

His 4yo daughter, Secret Admirer, saluted in the 1 mile Epsom Handicap. This was her second Group 1 success, after winning the Flight Stakes, against her own sex, last season.
