After another self imposed sabbatical (no I've not been serving time at her majesty's pleasure), the current prices would suggest that now is an ideal time to wet my toe in the murky waters of the specials markets once again.

I appreciate that my winner's radar has been defective for a while, and I usually tend to see markets differently to most people, but this one currently sees me standing alone. (which is slightly unnerving giving my most recent attempts)

From very early on, I could see only two of the housemates as the Endemol "rubber stamped" winners, and have seen nothing to alter that view, except for the massive drift in prices and the views of the forum.
Their prices have even drifted more since I took them yesterday, forcing me to foolishly take some more.

Backed 16.0 - 21.0
Steve was always the obvious choice to be ramped in the edits, and I still feel that this will have a massive impact going into the final days of the series. There will not be a servicemans family in the country who will not try to help the war hero across the finishing line at the end. Also the people who come in at the final shows to see the outright winner, they will only see a wounded hero showing how brave he is just by being in there, they will not see alleged pervy moments with Keeley much earlier in the series.

Backed 6.00
Josie is that rare woman in the BB house, one that the normal female population can identify themselves with. Overweight and conscious of it, inwardly lacking self belief and confidence, while outwardly portraying a confident persona in order to protect herself. She feels unworthy of JJ, yet still tries her heart out to win his affections. Again protecting her own feelings by occasionally saying that she does not really fancy him.
She has a wicked sense of humour and a very endearing nervous laugh.
The fact that she does not allow JJ to walk all over her will give her much kudos among her female brethren.

The fact that I came on here thinking that these two housemates would be the favourites shows just how warped my mind is. I would like to say though, that I cannot have JJ being favourite as I honestly think that I have more chance of winning than he does.
While Corin appears to be very popular (and I like her), I just do not see the women voters being able to identify with her like they could with Josie.

PS I do realise that Steve could be vulnerable as he is up this week, but I have never let facts get in the way of me spouting my b0llox in the past, so do not intend starting now.

Hope you are all well, and please feel free to tell me how much of an idiot I am.

Steve for Top Male at 11.0 was very unexpected, but very much appreciated. I'm just in and guessing from the odds Steve's not involved in the eviction shake up, bonus.
More time to focus on the big guy, and hopefully one step closer to the home videos.

I would have backed both Steve and Josie at much shorter, so definitely glad I was not around.
Would probably have been happy to have Steve at around 7.0 in the outright, so getting him at three times that price, and 11.0 for top male is making me moist.
I would possibly have dabbled on ben as he had the possibilty of ataining cult status, but he has been in self destruct mode for a little while now.
I could not have had any of the rest with somebody else;'s money.

Hi PAKEY,

Just a bit concerned by your timing really. Steve really was a high risk punt. He's saved himself this week - but it was a seat of the pants job.

Josie - well she is marmite defined. Love her or hate her - no middle ground.

I was a big green on Ben earlier on, but my book is level now. Concentrating on the eviction markets where I'm doing quite well.

GL with your bets mate.

Hi Kitten, hope you are well mate.

I honestly think that the further Steve goes, the harder he will be to beat, and that the only one with the possibility of doing it is Josie.
Unless the geek gets cult status.

Nice to hear you are green.

Report PAKEY July 27, 2010 9:49 PM BST
Thanks selkirk, been told I was flogging a dead horse many times in the past. That's probably why most of my winners have originally been backed at odds in the twenties and thirties, while others were backing the supposed good thing favourites.

best of luck to you also, who is your money on?

Steve (and Dave) are extreme red for me. Where do you think Steve's votes will come from Pakey? He's been a non housemate except for a few times (Keeley) where he came across as a jealous, slightly nasty perv.
Report PAKEY July 28, 2010 9:44 AM BST
Hi Henry
If he keeps his head under the radar and gets to the final stages, we will hear a lot more about his past and how he managed to lose his legs while serving his country. I think his will be the biggest impact if the family videos from home are shown, as he is the apparent rock/tough guy in there.
As stated previously, he will most definintely have the forces and their families voting for him as he is one of their own, and a hero.(we are fighting on two fronts at the moment)
On the finals nights, the viewing is bolstered by an awful lot of first timers and casual viewers, who would also be swayed (IMO) by a vote for the forces hero who made the massive sacrifice for his country, against the A N Other who is in these shows year after year.
It will not take much editing to put him in a good light or create a sympathetic vote, which is the angle that Endemol will come from (again IMO)
It's him and the frumpy, ordinary bird that the rest of the female population can identify with all the way for me.
Report PAKEY July 28, 2010 9:51 AM BST
The housemates dressed as brides makes the edit tonight I think, Steve in a wedding dress and his reaction should make a bit of an impact.

Steve's price suggests others may think along your lines Pakey. But I can't remember a worse poller - TIBB, DS - Favourite: 0.8%, 0.6% - Least Favourite: 16.5%, 17.8%.

He has been an extremely poor housemate. Endemol, who are continuing BB on Five, wouldn't give him any favours. He would have to rely on a campaign of non viewers,  however I guess anything's possible, that's why it's good to discuss it. Bez had VOTE BEZ banners in ManU (although he was well known).

Hi Pakey

The problem for Steve is the show is on Ch4; your line 'There will not be a servicemans family in the country who will not try to help the war hero across the finishing line at the end' might well apply to an ITV viewing audience, but not a Ch4 one.

As for Josie, I've got her small green for all the reasons you say. Just can't see her winning tho. This is between John James and Corin imo.

Good luck tho, as always.

PS Rachel is the value if you can get 90+ [;)]

Hi deejay
The services have their own newsletters, magazines and online forums where I would imagine that one of their own in any sort of national competition would be a topic of conversation, the fact he suffered such a loss while serving would help him no end.

Thanks Selkirk, but I'm a stubborn idiot when I think I'm onto something.

Check out the stats for previous series maiaze, and you will see the difference in the week in week out total audience figures compared to the last night/s.
The new viewer can have a very big say in this, and have a completely different take on the show to the die hards.
The edit towards the end will also determine a lot of views, and I can't see the putting the boot into Steve.

For those interested, it seems strange that the first and third favourites are women, but you can back a female winner for small amounts between 2.38 and 2.54.

Have gone slightly back into the red to have a bit of Steve at 44-46.0 as that is too overpriced for me. When you have the favourite males very precarious in a vote to evict, it can make the others prices look quite silly.
Imagine if the two biggest characters were to go, just how the market would stand?
I don't understand and I am quite disappointed that Steve did not drift in the Top Male, as that is where I really wanted to back him.
IMO (which has admittedly been terrible recently), Stevo would be a very short price for top male if he made it through the vote to evict stage.

Sry, Pakey I was given the horse as an ew tip before the firms priced up.  About 13/2 on here then and the firms went 5/1, 11/2 in a place or two.  He ran a fair race to finish 2nd, never really travels that well tbh, but came up against an exceptionally easy winner who lead from start to finish - nothing else in the race stood a chance.  The yard's other runner which they weren't sure about running had a terrible start but also managed to run on late to finish 2nd.

Paco Boy travelled well but couldn't finish over the distance in that ground.  The winner won easily.  Goldikova ran a game race just outbattling Paco at the death but never really travelled in the ground either.  I was amazed how short she traded IR.
Report PAKEY August 16, 2010 9:59 AM BST

Now concentrating on the Top Male having backed him at 11.0 -13.5 which is decent value if he gets through the vote to evict stage.

Morning squares, heard anything interesting for today?

I'm really liking Eseej tonight at Kempton.
In a class 6 tonight, having won rated higher in a class 4 and 5 in the last year. The Class 4 was for horses rated 72-87, while this race is for horses rated 0-65. Also won rated higher in a class 6, 1m 4f race last March.
It's Tom Mclaughlin's only ride of the night, and he has a 40% strike rate when teaming up with Hiatt As the horse is also owned by Hiatt, I'd feel that when the money goes down, it will be likely to do well.
My only concern is that it is a right handed track as he has done most of his winning on left handed, although he did take his maiden at this track over 1f shorter.
Well drawn in 12 for one that likes to go from the front, so if all goes well, we should at least get out stake money back laying in running.

A little worried as the handicapper has been kind to Seb's mount, but I can't get rid of the feeling that they are setting her up to bring her back to 1m3f, or her previous winning distance of 1m2f.
Will have a little saver on her anyway, and she could also be a nice one to back and lay in running if she does well for the first 1m3f.

It would just be my luck if these two fought for the lead and set it up for a finisher.

This is a vote to evict, where the big characters and highlighted trouble makers or evil doers tend to be evicted. Over the last few days on the highlight show, when people have been watching and voting to evict 4 housemates.

1. Steve has barely been on the edit to be brought to the voters attention. (vote to evict remember)

From the recent edits and the way that vote to evicts seem to attract the votes of those that profile highly in the edit, and those who are portrayed as having flaws, you would think that John James, Sam and Corin would be a shoo in (I hate that term) for the first three places. I'm not suggesting that it is a foregone conclusion, but if it did pan out that way, with his lack of highlight featuring, I honestly don't see how Steve manages to fight his way to the fourth spot.

Surely Dave would be more likely to get this spot, especially if the editing continued in this vein.
I got the feeling last night that they were toying with the possibilities of featuring Mario lusting after young Andrew. Mario straddling Andrew and staring into his eyes like that was quite uncomfortable, it would not take much of that to bring him into the equation also.

Report PAKEY August 22, 2010 6:33 PM BST
Enough to keep me going Selkirk, but have to admit that the well has been drier than usual for about the last year.
Fortunately, the occasional big priced winner keeps popping up to keep the wheels oiled for the next few months.

How's your luck been?

Dogs are my main source.

Are you successful, and do you use stats, form or inside knowledge? [;)]

I like the better class stuff, especially distance races.

All three.

It keeps me in Cuban cigars.

You should really read posts in they way they were intended Selkirk (self explanatory this one), the crowing was written in the style of Kenneth Tong's twitter page.

Thanks Alfie, but I'll be more inclined to remember my Josie to win from the start (even when there were big trains reaching very low prices), and forget all about Stevo to be top male Happy.

FWIW Selkirk, and this is not Kenneth Tong style
The current position regarding my Pakistan bet is:
I layed my original stake yesterday at 2.44 @ 11:14
I layed the equivelant of my stake again at 2.28 at 12:02

This meant that after 12:02 yesterday, I was sitting with around a 7/2 gain if Pakistan won, and even money win if they lost.
I have even had a small bet on Pakistan @ 23.0 this morning in the hope that they get the finger out, and finish off the bowling job in the second innings.
As you will no doubt say I am lying, I'm more than happy to do the cut and paste or whatever it is you do to show your book on an event, as long as somebody show me how to do it.

I had a not bad run on BB11 with Josie to win the outright and Stevo to be Top Male (I always put my bets up on here BEFORE the result), remind me of how well you did and what your tips were.

Maybe you should read the post again before casting insults Selkirk, and if you only come onto threads to insult people, please explain what pleasure you get from that.

I'm off out to play cricket, so will not be responding until tonight or tomorrow, feel free to put the boot in if it makes you feel better.

Have a nice one

yours is a valued opinion on here pakey, good luck with your cricket.
Report PAKEY August 29, 2010 9:21 AM BST
Thanks Alfie, the win will be a little less now as I had another little bit on Pakistan at 60s yesterday Shocked, in the small hope that they could have some sort of fightback, Doh.
To think that I almost levelled out my initial stake for an all round 5/2 ish win, regardless of the result.Cry

How's your UBB going?
Report alfie46 August 29, 2010 10:28 AM BST
ok thanks pakeyHappy not nearly involved as much as BB,did well on coolio eviction and good green on chantelle outright, also small bet on victor yesterday and small loss coolio top man, thats it.
any runs or wickets yesterday playing?
Report PAKEY August 29, 2010 5:12 PM BST
Had a very good game on a very damp pitch, but we chased down their score which looked very unlikey as the middle order (including me) collapsed.
Another fantastic day though

Well done with the Coolio eviction, I would have lost, probably why I don't do evictions Grin
