Leeds v Everton, Tuesday 19:45, Sky Sports 2 Although both these sides recorded league victories in their respective divisions at the weekend, the nature of their triumphs bore stark contrast. While an animated Neil Warnock bit his fingernails at Elland Road as Nottingham Forest pressed hard for the equaliser, David Moyes' Everton side had calmly stroked it around as the clock wound down in their game a few hours earlier safe in the knowledge that all three points were in the basket before the half-time whistle. Everton's emphatic win in Wales has thrust the Merseysiders into a lofty third position in the Premier League, whereas the Yorkshire club's third win sees them lying 12th in the Championship after garnering ten points from seven games. Apart from a blip at the...

Leeds v Blackburn Leeds are playing well, there's no doubt about that. An opening day victory over Wolves was followed by an unlucky loss to early league leaders Blackpool before Neil Warnock's men got back to winning ways by beating Peterborough. Add in two impressive cup wins and it's four wins from five for United, 11 goals scored and just three conceded. Blackburn have also started the season well going on results alone, but they haven't been playing great and that showed in midweek when they lost in the Capital One Cup to League One outfit MK Dons. I sense Leeds are in for a good season and their form at Elland Road is going to be crucial if they are to be in the promotion picture come May. I'm not at all confident that Rovers will be there at the death however and ...

On a full midweek programme of Championship football this is undoubtedly the fixture that catches the eye from an entertainment perspective; two attacking teams in opposition with a couple of swashbuckling managers going head-to-head in the technical area. Both Blackpool and Leeds got their campaigns off to win-to-nil starts at the weekend, and in all honestly, both looked very solid defensively. Neil Warnock's United side restricted a pretty talented Wolves side to just a few clear cut chances, whilst Ian Holloway's Blackpool were rarely threatened away to Millwall. Over 2.5 Goals is available to back at just 1.86 here, and that's understandable given the way that both these sides like to play. But early impressions - and I admit they are very early impressions - lead me to believe...

Birmingham v Nottingham Forest There is little doubt that Birmingham are very much a team to have on your side at the moment. I'm no rocket scientist: just look at the current form table. The Blues have not lost since December 19, a run of 11 league games that extends to 15 matches if you add in four FA Cup ties including Saturday's draw at Chelsea. Of particular interest is their defensive record: Chris Hughton's side have conceded just six goals in those 15 games, and they have kept four consecutive clean sheets at St Andrews. So, I'm scratching my head as to why we can back them at such an attractive price to maintain that run against the team with the joint-worst goalscoring record in the division! Admittedly Forest have found the net in each of their last three games,...

The last time that Manchester United faced their rivals from across the Pennines, it was Leeds United that pulled off a shock away victory to dump Sir Alex Ferguson's team out of the FA Cup. Since then, Leeds have been promoted to the Championship and will now be looking to pull off another cup giant-killing. On this occasion it is Leeds who have the home advantage and their manager Simon Grayson has indicated that he will bow to fan pressure and put out a full strength side. Leeds will be without their suspended full-back Patrick Kisnorbo, after he was sent off at the weekend, but otherwise should be unchanged from the team that defeated Bristol City, with the possible exception of a starting role for Luciano Becchio alongside the in-form Ross McCormack in attack. The visitors will...

It's the calm after the storm as far as Super League XVI is concerned this weekend. After a marathon of live Millennium Magic action last week, the Sky cameras will be at just two games for round two. Hull play host to Leeds at the KC Stadium on the first of those on Friday evening and the performances of the two sides last weekend could barely have been more contrasting. Richard Agar's side raced into a 14-0 lead inside as many minutes against their fierce rivals KR, only to leak 28 unanswered points as they eventually slumped to a 34-22 defeat. The Airlie birds have consistently been amongst the biggest spenders in Super League, but whilst last year's sixth place finish was a creditable effort, they are yet to hint at the progression required to challenge the big four. It was...
