Are you still having problems finding the app?

Have you tried the following:

QR Code http://tinyurl.com/betfairandroid or visit http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:com.betfair.nativeapp

Cheers ronant - when I try to access via these links it still tells me its not there - maybe my phone has compatibility issues although don't see why as android 2.1

Does anyone have the apk file new app - i could then try loading manually???

We've just release the Official Betfair app for Android.  Have a look and let me know what you think.  Here's a QR code: http://tinyurl.com/betfairandroid or visit http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:... on your Android phone.

try that.

Got this reply from helpdesk:

In order to run the Betfair Android application on your phone, you need to have the below requirements first:-

-          Android 2.1 or above
-          320x480+ screen resolution

If you do not have the above specifications already, then you can use http://touch.betfair.com as an alternative way of using Betfair on your Android phone.

The resolution explains why I can't access - I have gone back top them and asked if they can consider reducing resolution requirements in future updates - no response yet.

Might be worth anyone else similarly affected doing the same???

I have messaged Martyn Haigh (who has posted several times and indicates he is lead android developer) with a request to alter screen res requirements in next update  but as yet no reply either way.

A total waste of money and time, poor communication from betfair on this android phone!
Report metro john December 23, 2010 12:52 PM GMT
How many android phones are there? just make a list of those phones that do not allow betfair android?
Report MartynH December 31, 2010 2:14 PM GMT
Hey, apologies for the lack of communications I've had a bit of time off over the xmas holidays. I'm aware of the app not showing up in the market place for some users and I'm trying to find out why this is happening but don't have much to go on at the moment. It seems that it happens to people with different phones, operators and in different countries.

If you are experiencing this problem you could help me sort this out by posting your phone make and model, os version, operator and country of residence.  I'm trying to get this sorted out as quickly as possible, but it's not as obvious as it may appear!

I'll also have a word with the product owner, who ultimately calls the shots, over getting smaller screen sizes supported.

If you guys have any other requests, comments or criticisms please drop me a line on martyn.haigh@betfair.com or post in the forums.  I'll try and help as and when I can.

Also - a little bit of news on the app:  we've been doing some tinkering over the xmas holidays and have sped up the overall performance of the app when communicating with the server, this will be out in the next release sometime in the new year.

Happy New Year!

@ MartynH. I had to reboot my HTC Desire HD T Mobile completely but did not save the Android on my SD Card?! What a baffoon I am. Now I can't find this app on the Market when I search for it, only Betfair touch. But I can't find it from the links u posted. any suggestions how I can get that app back? Thanks.

@MartynH  Thanks for update.

I can't find app and details as follows: Samsung Galaxy Europa on Orange UK (I have tested sim in a mates HTC Desire and it find both touch and native app in market)

Betfair Helpdesk advised:

Android 2.1 or above & 320x480+ screen resolution required to run apps

My phone is 2.1 but only is 240x320 (screen size 2.8 inch)

As there are more and more cheaper android phones coming onto market which have lower screen res so this may become more and more of an issue - my phone was only released in Oct this year so is a brand new model.

In many instances, my understanding is that the res is just a default setting that doesn't really affect how app works (I've loaded other APK files onto phone that don't show in market and they work fine).

Wondered if there was any chance app may be updated to allow access by phones with lower res/screen size such as mine - could you consider this as part of future update???

I have the same problem, the app won't show when I search for it in the market. my phone is an Android 2.1 with a 240 x 320 resolution, it's the HTC Wildfire. I'm in the UK on Virgin Mobile

htc desire with virgin...uk...nothing in the market place.

Just a quick note to say that both of our apps are currently off the market due to Google's new market policy.  Rest assured that we are working to get you an alternate way to get our applications.  We'll post something in the forum as soon as we have something in place but we need to do a bit of work before that happens.

Hi there,

We are offering a (free) alternative to the official Betfair app for Android. While the app has been pulled from the Android Market as well (due to Google's new content policy), it is still available for direct download from our website: http://betacular.com/

Without Android Market you will not automatically be notified of updates to the app, so make sure to subscribe to the newsletter or to follow us on Twitter.

We would love to get your feedback on the app (problems, ideas, questions, praises) at http://feedback.betacular.com/

Best,
-Jonas
