Strong winds in melbourne 12.30 am sunday no rain expected until a drenching on wednesday. With the strong wind expect the track to be good...IMO

GOOD LUCK TO ALL PUNTERS
Probably put half the field in trifectors etc. But my live chances i think are the japanese.trip to paris, snow sky, criterion, bondi beach. If the rain comes early (40 mil expected) and arrives tuesday before the cup, all out on the mudlark criterion.

Hi henry ,
Preferment is the standout for me .Cant see anything as good @ the weights which will play its part but course form swings it here and a likable horse.
Significantly Ryan Moore does  not ride for his new stable which says alot about their runners but top weight not a likely winner of this.

Think Criterion will love the 3200m and look the winner at least at some part of the straight.  Hoping the right part.

TOWF,,,funny was form assessing this afternoon and noted impeccable form followed by the usual pre-cup smoky run in the Cox ....

What a training prep to the day.....3 Barrier trials in 30 days....21 Aug to 21 Sept...followed by its early in the prep win on the 4 Oct.....then of course smoky run at the Valley....only caveat is maybe the Turnball was not the strongest but what a strong win in any event...and from memory Cox and Mckinnon often the smoky runs....by Cup contenders....trying to recall previous Cox run Cup place getters...

While on the once upon a time talk many will recall that a reliable  "system" was fast finishing place getters in the Caulfield Cup (Gala Supreme comes to mind)....which puts Paris into big contention....

Curiously trying to think outside the square ,,,Max Dynamite come to mind in a big way...actually a jumper but the Galway (2nd place) was great race and has all that experience in those big fielded jumps (up against 18-19 other  runners) so should luv any pushing and shoving....only caveat is might be running a bit fresh....so might not settle....unless it has had some decent workouts (which one would expect)...

So at this moment my tip is MD

Have a BIG KNOCK on Fame Game and will be laying it accordingly..on preparation...the Cup is second up off a 5 MONTH spell

Cant help but think it is being prepared for a latter race somewhere (probably 3400m)

Off a 5 month spell
it really does need one or even 2 more runs....any big effort asked of it for the Cup... runs the BIG risk of some type of damage

Currently lay odds $4.8 ....IMO a lay is money for jam .....

Fame Game 3.5 in my market Henry, barring bad luck and a wet track it won't surprise if he wins with a leg in the air.
He's by far and away the best international horse to ever contest the cup.
Could easily have him shorter than that but was deliberately trying to be conservative, Almoonqith and Our Ivanhowe have a sense of timing about their prep and respect Criterion's class but he has to break every rule in the book to win, horses that win Black Opal's as a 2yo and run sixth in the Golden Slipper don;t win Melbourne Cups, ran 4th in The VRC derby as a spring 3yo and then won the AJC Derby again against his own age as a 3yo and hasn't been over 2400m or further since, has to be very big distance query and is poorly weighted given the distance query. Although the same queries were posed about saintly this horse isn't in the same breath as Saintly yet and also saintly raced against a far inferior quality field back then as the type of quality stayer contesting this event.
Max Dynamite impressive last start but on a slow 7 (probably heavy 9 or 10 here) and a disappointing second the start before on a dry track  although was coming off a break that day runs up to his last run and he's a definite place chance.
Bondi Beach doesn't go past horses either, judging by his replays he looms up and then won't go past them so can't win for mine. The United States is impossible, Moreira is a freak but he can't carry them, same goes for snow sky he's impossible plenty of deadwood in this cup with virtually no winning hope.
Preferment if you put the cox out of your mind which you have to based upon the way the track played is the logical second pick and respect red cadeaux because he's done it year in year out and dunlop knows what he's on about. Fame game wins, good chances to preferment, Our Ivanhowe, almoonqith and Trip To Paris, Criterion a silly chance think Hokko Brave can run a race as well was ok at caulfield and will improve red cadeaux the best roughie and Barman a silly chance again likes flemington adn Caulfield effort was ok.

Stupid part about it, is his hypertrophic patented fitness levels with tens of thousands of algorithms showed up:
100% Criterion/Fame Game
99% Our Ivanhoe/The Offer/Prince Of Penzance/Preferment

100% 3rd/13th
99% 10th/8th/1st/20th

Yet, he tipped you out of Prince Of Penzance because of class.  Now where has class ever come into anything in his "tips"?

His tips:
Trip To Paris.  Second favourite, 4th.
Preferment.  3rd favourite, 20th.
Fame Game.  Favourite, 13th.
Any UK runner and Hoko Brave who he had at 97%, and the UK runners, as far as I can see, didn't rate their fitness at all.  Yet tipped them all above his 100% and 99% ers......

Of course, these are what he showed up as their fitness after their last runs.  Much easier to claim high fitness levels after a race, and then show yourself up next time.

If he didn't put his tips up, he could have easily claimed 1st and 3rd in the cup with 100 dollar winner and 6 dollar place out of 6 horses.  But even he doesn't buy into his bullsiht.....

WD henty with the lay as for me could see that in the fisst four so went with you .
Good call on the irish runner but to be true the track bias imho played its part.
The sccamble to te rail destroyed the event and one can apportion blame directly to the manager.
Not distracting from your good win henry .
Fair play An you called it.

Happy

The Race That Stops The Nation???? LaughLaugh......I recon  most people outside Melbourne apart from the enthusiasts wouldn't even know it's on.

it's wonderful when you get a ... dim wit ... blindly stagger into a Forum .. Grin

brightens up the morning and gives you something to do waiting for the next race to run

and sometimes ... the dim wit ... might be from lands far away  .. lands where their local trainers have sent horses from

but ... dim wits are rarely dim wits by design ... sometimes they don't even know they are dim wits Cry

so reality can be shown to them ... to lessen the blankness of their ... dim wit'dness  Love

http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/australia/melbourne-cup-day

Local races are held throughout the country on this day and when the main race of the day occurs at the Flemington Racecourse it is televised on screens at race tracks across Australia.

The race is televised live to an audience of about 650 million people worldwide.

now just in case the ... dim wit .. cannot add numbers .. that's about the equivalent of 10 times the entire population of the UK  Wink
