Harness Racing Victoria stewards, acting under the provisions of Australian Rule of Harness Racing (ARHR) 183, suspended the training and driving licences of Mr Craig Demmler on Friday, March 13.
This decision was made in connection with an analysis of a raceday sample collected from one of Mr Demmler’s horses.
The Chemistry Centre in Western Australia and the National Measurement Institute in NSW, after conducting analysis of the relevant sample, reported the sample contained cobalt at a concentration in excess of the permissible threshold of 200 micrograms per litre in urine.
Mr Demmler has appealed the decision of the HRV Stewards to suspend his licences.
This appeal, which relates only to the decision to suspend Mr Demmler’s licences, will be heard by the independent HRV Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board on Wednesday, March 18, at 10am.
HRV Stewards will continue their investigations into the reported cobalt irregularity.

Craig is the son of harness legend Ted Demmler and points out that most of the horses he trains today were inherited from his father after Ted suffered a near fatal fall in 2005.
He has many good clients in his stable and feels they have stuck with him due to his father's good name and what Ted has achieved over the years.
Craig stepped out of his father's shadow recently, choosing to leave the the stable at Carrum Downs and relocate to Parwan, a small community in Bacchus Marsh,on the opposite side of Melbourne with his partner Jodi Quinlan. Situated on 40 acres, the property comprises of a 900 metre fast work track and a separate inside jog track as well as plenty of spacious yards and paddocks to accommodate their sizable teams.
Together with Jodi (Quinlin), they are working a team of 30 and their ultimate goal is to be competitive and hopefully end up running consistantly. Craig is now moving forward at a rapid rate, crafting a harness racing reputation of his own
