How good was that, two complete superstars, one the best mare we have seen in 20 years and the other one of great horses of the last decade.

You've got a relatively short memory AD and are getting a little carried away in my opinion if you think Adore Me is one of the best mares in the last 20 years, has she she even won against the males in open class yet? Should really have won tonight with the run it had in transit got to the breeze very easily in the final lap and then cruised to the front soon after when Mah Sish was stopping, very good performance by Terror To Love though, clearly just a different horse in NZ but by the same token not sure it was a vintage Auckland Cup either with a number of out of form horses lining up and a very average horse contesting it in elusive chick. Adore Me was well and truly entitled to win with the run it had enjoyed, they only got home in 56.7 and 28.2 and it stayed out of the early battle and hadn't done a tap in the run until asked to sprint in the final lap.
It went good but not great in my opinion.
Ever heard of Norm's Daughter which had no problem beating all comers in fast class including winning the 1996 Miracle Mile, Mainland Banner, Kate's First, Kym's Girl etc just off the top of my head.
Hate to see what Norm's Daughter would have done to that lot in the Ladyship Mile with the same run Adore Me had in transit, it would have annihilated Vansumic & co.
Don't get me wrong Adore Me is obviously an outstanding mare but has a long way to go before she proves herself one of the best mares of the last 20 years more hype than substance at this stage until she can prove herself against the very best going around.
Just a bit sick of hearing about ridiculously over hyped horses that's all, before they even proven themselves at the highest level not saying she won't eventually but until she does she shouldn't be mentioned in the class as some of the horses I've mentioned.

haha you are classic LE - shoot down adore me based on her 800m split and use a WA example
i think your being unfair to adore me, beaten by TTL in NZ.
as a 3 yr old her only defeat was in the NZ derby where she ran 2nd beating home franco nelson, border control
Norms daughter only managed 4th in WA derby, MB won NZ cup at 4 but only got home in 56.7, kates first won auckland cup last 800 in 57.7, and im sure kyms girl didnt do much until she was a older mare
its a pointless argument, she clearly is in the same realm as those mares based on what she has done to date

Still hasn't mentioned he was completely wrong about I'm Victorious, who was dropping off last week when the unfortunate trouble came after having the best trip in the race, or Franco Nelson who he thought could win the Inter and couldn't win two other 'lessor' races.
There is only one mare in the time span I mentioned that could put above Adore Me, and that is Blossom Lady.

I was never going to post here again but I just have to right what I see as an injustice regarding the ADORE ME vs MAINLAND BANNER mass debate.
Sadly MB’s career was cut short by injury but she still rates with the best kiwi mares in my lifetime who are Armalight, Bonnies Chance, Delightful Lady and the Bloss……MB was a freak and was also only beaten once as a 3yo……she is the only 4yo mare to win a NZ Cup where she breezed the last lap and comparing the times from nearly 10 years ago is a joke as they didn’t have these new sulkies then etc……not only that she is the only 4yo mare to get the rarely achieved treble of winning the Taylor Mile, Messenger and NZ Cup in the same season……will Adore Me emulate that feat?, time will tell but I doubt it.
I’m not bagging Adore Me as I was the first to spruik her here as her ability was obvious from day one but she is yet to beat the big boys in a group one……to compare her to Mainland Banner or the other four mares I’ve mentioned at this stage is a joke and an insult to them all……potential, raps and hype mean nothing till you actually achieve something noteworthy

I can see why as the forums genius on every code in every country Lets Elope's statement "Adore Me was well and truly entitled to win with the run it had enjoyed, they only got home in 56.7 and 28.2 and it stayed out of the early battle and hadn't done a tap in the run until asked to sprint in the final lap." was one of the funniest things I've seen here......ffs she had to take off at the bell while TTL is getting the perfect cart up to the turn and only just goes under and flogs the rest.....Mainland Banner would have sat three wide the trip and still won though

Let's. Pleaseeeeeeee Little bit to late to mention Blossom Lady. She was in same era as Norms Daughter.
My Fav was Glenfield Girl and Our Navy Lady, Helens Pleasure, Key Largo, one of Chris Gleesons mate who I can't remember name.

Fark me for a supposed superstar it could not have possibly had a softer run.
Massively overrated at this stage and to even mention it in the same breath is an absolute insult to Blossom.
You could quite logically argue she's one of the greatest fillies of the last 20 years but you certainly can't argue based upon her performances in open company to date that she's anything but a really nice mare, that may well change but it certainly hasn't to date. It was hardly a vintage auckland cup she burst well clear and then turned it up under pressure, it took a good performance from TTL to do so but it went right on by. I didnt have a bet so I'm not talking through my pocket either, for crying loud vansumic won the ladyship mile and its nothing special by any stretch of the imagination.
As for AD renowned superior judgment and assessment how did that great 'stayer' cb fare??? Can't say the race wasn't run to suit with the pressure on throughout, tracked terror to love into the race and was under pressure coming to the corner after not having done a tap in the run.
At least victorious was up on the speed trying to go with the hot tempo early and was still going to run in the top four or five after doing some work in the run which was more than what could be said for CB.
I also said it was probably a year too early for Victorious (conveniently omitted by him)and that it wouldn't surprise me if beautide bolted in(also conveniently omitted.
Franco Nelson was slightly disappointing at his next start when btn in stunning fashion by Seel N Print ( not a lot wrong with that form I would have thought) and extremely disappointing in the chariots when he was clearly over the top, he was probably not quite ready for that inters level as a 4yo and the huge run in his inters heat probably knocked the stuffing out of him as well. Also if he had gained a start I would have still been happy to be having a small bet on him at the big odds that he would have been in the final.

By the way I never bothered checking to see whether blossom lady was outside that 20 year span I just assumed from memory that in all probability she was. Just checked and surprisingly she is inside that 20 years span so obviously she's at the very top of that list, easy to forget how long she raced for as an older mare. Now there was an out and out champion in every sense of the word, some of my best memories and results were her hunter cup wins. Looking back at what she raced against what a great race it would be to see Jack Morris, Blossom Lady, Master Musician, Westburn Grant then throw in Chandon and Beautide and Elsu all at their peaks in the one race plus Popular Alm, Sinbad Bay and Pure Steel for good measure you would walk miles and miles barefoot over broken glass to see that clash. Have no doubt Menangle would suit all of those horses imagine chandon's speed and Pure Steel's sustained power without having to labour around tight tracks ditto Master Musician and Sinbad Bay what a race it would be.

She was just beaten by TTL, next you'll be saying TTL is no good because he hasn't won the M4 at glouster park
And f*** off everyone saying menangle would suit this horse and that horse! it's like saying they'll get better next preparation - they all do!

Uncle did I say anything about Adore Me's juvenile record that was disparaging, no, the fact that she beat franco nelson in the derby is largely irrelevant as until she performs to the same high standard in open class she can't even be mentioned in the same breath as some of the mares I've mentioned.
Great younger horse but it's still debateable whether she's going to reach that level against seasoned top open horses.
I had this same argument with VK over the former brilliant darryl graham trained juvenile superstar lanercost it never performed at that same level against the older horses either.
You have to be a total freak to be able to do it and those sort of horses are very few and far between Chandon would be one off the top of my head who displayed the same freakish ability he did as a younger horse as he did in open class as a mature horse but even he succumbed to injury, courage under fire was another although arguably he was an infinitely better 3yo than he was in open class but he still performed extremely well at that level although not quite up to his 3yo standards, Master Musician was another who maintained a freakishly high level of performance throughout his career as was Chokin to a lesser extent.

Bit Harsh on Chokin, He was All class his whole career Id say better than all the ones you mentioned.
Chandon we never got to see the best of as never really had Open Class Career. Most Open Class Horses have Ability their whole Career not just find it after 4 yrs old Then there is the Over Raced ones that by the time they are 4 they are gone. Royal Verdict a great example Ive been saying for years Horses should have a Limited amount of Starts as 2 n 3 yr olds so they make it to 4

loved exceptionally smooth she was very good to me, Whitby's Miss Penny was another top mare who made the transition, agree with what your saying Lloydy, there's no argument most good horses always display ability but it's far rarer for champion older horses to be totally dominant at 2 and 3 as well.

lanercost broke down barely into his 5 yr old career - tough to measure up when hes at home serving mares... speaking of serving mares for a reason hasn't done a bad job continuing his younger form onwards
you blokes are punters not horsemen, leave out the talk of restricting starts

doesnt matter how many starts they have, well it does if they've had a 100 by 4 but so many other factors (outside of racetrack appearances) involved as whether they are burnt out or not (they could have 5 and be worse off than another having 10)... 90% of horses wouldnt be better served by not racing, i believe that there is a strong advantage in racing at 2 (at least once) for your 3 yr old season, the horse is so much more experienced and professional than if it stayed at home at 2

not many, probably alot of trials as they are sellers
how many did blacksafake and elsu have? easy to pick out the star older horses and not notice the other 1000 left in the paddock to 'mature' and all you get a nice bill in return

Okay HL if we are going back in time the best mare bar none, NZ and Australia.
Robin Dundee.
Miracle Mile, Inter Dominion, Auckland Cup.
And she produced Genghis Khan; a world champion who paced 1:51 4/5 to better the world race record held by the incomparable Niatross at 1:52 1/5.
