Khan she was good but he had a really good mare.
Ill remember soon |

butlers love?
By:
loved exceptionally smooth she was very good to me, Whitby's Miss Penny was another top mare who made the transition, agree with what your saying Lloydy, there's no argument most good horses always display ability but it's far rarer for champion older horses to be totally dominant at 2 and 3 as well.

Butlers love was very good, think he's right and I think Tess usually drove the one that lloydy's trying to think of.

Love to see them back.
His property was sensational. I wonder if he still owns. Would need to train horses anymore with that Real Estate. |

lanercost broke down barely into his 5 yr old career - tough to measure up when hes at home serving mares... speaking of serving mares for a reason hasn't done a bad job continuing his younger form onwards
you blokes are punters not horsemen, leave out the talk of restricting starts |
By:
So u like them been burnt to the Ground by the time they are 4?
Or it doesnt matter how many starts they have had? |
By:
doesnt matter how many starts they have, well it does if they've had a 100 by 4 but so many other factors (outside of racetrack appearances) involved as whether they are burnt out or not (they could have 5 and be worse off than another having 10)... 90% of horses wouldnt be better served by not racing, i believe that there is a strong advantage in racing at 2 (at least once) for your 3 yr old season, the horse is so much more experienced and professional than if it stayed at home at 2

How many starts did Smoken Up have as a young horse? Just curious.
By:
not many, probably alot of trials as they are sellers
how many did blacksafake and elsu have? easy to pick out the star older horses and not notice the other 1000 left in the paddock to 'mature' and all you get a nice bill in return |
By:
I wasn't inferring anything, Uncle. Genuinely curious.
Standardbreds are a whole different beast to the real thing. ![]() |

Step aside Ex Sm and Ov to Sp
Wikipedia Delightful Lady was a New Zealand Standardbred racemare. She is notable in that she won two Auckland Trotting Cup races, one of the richest harness races in New Zealand.[1] She won many races in the early 1980s including the Auckland Trotting Cup. She holds the record for the most wins in harness races in New Zealand, with 47. As a notable champion, she was inducted into the New Zealand Trotting Hall of Fame with other immortals |

Okay HL if we are going back in time the best mare bar none, NZ and Australia.
Robin Dundee. Miracle Mile, Inter Dominion, Auckland Cup. And she produced Genghis Khan; a world champion who paced 1:51 4/5 to better the world race record held by the incomparable Niatross at 1:52 1/5. |
By:
I'm talking about the elite NZ open class mares that I've seen race, Robin Dundee is before my time thank jebus
there is a long list of exceptional fillies who never made it to open class glory |
By:
Any mare that can beat the big boys on the Grand Circuit, is a champion in my book.
By:
Yep before my time also...though know the name......Earliest winning mare i can remember is Elmo Dawn....(Albion Park great)
By:
I remember old Elmo. Had a neck on her like a giraffe.
By:
Adios Amigo ??
By:
Adios Amigo, wore the white harness.
Henry, did you see Stormy Water race ? He was by far the best horse to race at AP in the early days. |
By:
Even Stanley Rio ....memory is it was Stormy Waters (not water)....yes white harness similar to Master Musician green harness
By:
you blokes are old
By:
Definitely " Water ", Henry.
Stanley Rio was a Kiwi trained pacer who won the Brisbane Inter in 1977. That was ten years after Stormy Water raced. |
By:
I felt old earlier in the week, Uncle, when I got barrelled by a horse. No serious injury, but it made me feel my age.
By:
Castiron, I thought you were at the stage of putting the feet up and letting your fine lady do the work?

this thread is turning into "Tappy's Remember When"

BIGGEST HINDSIGHT CERTAINTY.......................................................
Triad Final when Lloyds insurance put up as a bonus two hundred and fifty thouand ($250 000) for any horse to win two two triad finals in a row.....Flirtable (1-2 to 4-6 out to 6-4) Kentucky Bye Bye (5-1 into 7-2).....Flirtable 2 lengths in front and Kentucky right on his back.....I remember thinking "of course!!"...Martin and KT |
By:
If we're going back in time Dainty's Daughter certainly falls under the category of champion mare as does Miss Dundee and Line On.
