Most probably due to the time per qtr being changed
Report cosmo_kramer February 19, 2014 9:49 AM GMT
this is Bulls***...
it doesnt say anything in the rules about if the amount of time per quarter changes the bets are void...
if saints get up ill definitely be demanding the winnings!
Report BetmanDeluxe February 19, 2014 9:50 AM GMT
why was that changed?
Report melacka February 19, 2014 9:51 AM GMT
length of qtrs were shortened due to late start which was caused by flooding at the ground
Report BetmanDeluxe February 19, 2014 9:52 AM GMT
thank you

but betfair were taking bets long after the game started and the shorter quarters were announced, only decided  to cancel the bets after the Saints had made a big comeback at the end of the second quarter Confused

Your bets come up as voided?
Report melacka February 19, 2014 10:10 AM GMT
Yes in bet history showing as voided

Not sure I understand.  A 50 over game of cricket can have overs lost 20 times til it is 20 overs a side and the match odds aren't effected.
I very much doubt the shortened quarters had anything to do with it.  Makes zero sense.

The game was delayed 30 minutes right?  BF changed their market start time, so they obviously knew everything, changed it.

Simple case of somebody that bets big with them bitched and moaned?

Not understanding also, first time i have seen AFL voided

Saints layers got a bit worried so got betfair to shut it down?
Report BJT February 19, 2014 10:28 AM GMT
Can probably understand the lines, and any markets affected by it, but match odds isn't.  Something doesn't sound add up.

Was only 30k matched pre game on match odds, can't imagine the side markets had anything of note on it.  Was only about 60k when it went down.
So really, the only people that would have been in any trouble, were Saints layers at the 15+ level, and even then I don't think there was much action.

Either way, for them to have changed the start time knowing the circumstances, yet cancelled the market approaching half time, something must have changed between then, and it certainly wasn't the length of quarters as that variable was already accounted for.
Somebody didn't like what was going on.  Where is the market for that?  I will throw money down on it.

Yeh same thoughts here, the line market being cancelled is understandable as a shortened line but no idea why match odds voided...

Dogs hang on to win it in the end, karma? Layers lose the returns, betfair lose a bit of cred and a few customers?

Periods of time
Some markets have different rules and these are listed in the Specific Sports Rules and/or the Market Information. However, if not dealt with in the Specific Sports Rules or the Market Information then the following shall apply.
If the scheduled duration of an event is changed after the market has been loaded but before the start of the event, then all bets will be void.
Some markets refer to the length of time until an occurrence in the event (e.g. time of first goal). If an event happens in stoppage or injury time after any regular time period then it will be deemed to have occurred at the end of the regular time period. For example, if a goal is scored in first half stoppage-time in a soccer match it will be deemed to have occurred on 45 minutes.
All bets apply to the relevant full 'regular time' period including stoppage time. Any extra-time and/or penalty shoot-out is not included.
References within these Rules and Regulations to a particular number of 'days' shall mean the end of the day local time after the expiry of the specified number of days. For example, if a rugby match is scheduled for the 1st of December, then the rule that allows the match to be completed within three days after the scheduled completion date (see Paragraph 3 above) would mean that the deadline for completion of that match would be 23.59:59 on the 4th of December.

--------
It is in their rules.  But the question of why when they found out about the changes, they chose to simply change the time of the event.

Why go to the trouble of rescheduling a start time, of a game that will be voided?

My tip is they used their common sense that it didn't effect anything, and somebody got in trouble in the market knowing they could get them on a technicality if they needed to.

I suggest people were having free bets on the hope they got paid off big, but knowing they could get it cancelled due to BF rules, rather than any favours being done.
I just can't imagine anybody betting on that market would be a player with any pull in BF decisions.  There simply wasn't enough money for a BF player with that sort of pull.

And in saying that, I would take that rule to mean that when finding out about the change in duration, all bets would be void.
Not that the market would not take place.

That was what they pointed out to me.  But looking at it, suggests to me something like voided bets, reopen the market under the new conditions or they wouldn't have needed to specify "before the start of an event".  That implies to me that the market will take place..

3 hours later and still no explanation from betfair

That was the explanation I got from them on Twitter as I stated.

I can understand margin bets being voided with the slightly shorter game but the head to head? Come on now that is nothing short of a complete and utter disgrace.
