Santiago  ( Spencer Tracey) - The Old Man and the Sea. Santiago, has gone 84 days without catching a fish. Santiago is considered "salao", the worst form of unlucky but then he lands the biggest Marlin ever caught.

Your comment not exactly going to be a life changing moment for me Secong, in fact care factor zero. But something that has been playing on your mind  for five years on what I've said in 2008 about the Melbourne Cup may mean you need to get a life or perhaps seek some professional help should it continue to bother you. Good luck with it.

Michael Sullivan - Tom Hanks, Road to Perdition.

The single most under rated movie that was ever made, with possibly the greatest cinematography in the history of motion picture. Brilliant actor Hanks, you would question him being cast as a gangster, but he pulls it off effortlessly. This character is exceptional.

Characters from movies you respect, that's an interesting concept wonby10.

I'm with on Harry Calahan, Rick Blaine and Paul Kelsey from your list, but the Corleone's and Danny Ocean (despite all being great characters) are just too self serving to gain respect.  I'm not familiar enough with the others on your list to comment.

Here are some more for consideration, in no particular order.

Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver, Alien franchise)

Capt. Benjamin Willard (Martin Sheen, Apocolypse Now)

Sgt. Elias (Willem Dafoe, Platoon)

Carl Fox (Martin Sheen, Wall Street)

'Red' Redding (Morgan Freeman, The Shawshank Redemption)

Henry Brubaker (Robert Redford, Brubaker)

Robert Shaw - Quint - Jaws
Roy Scheider Amity Police Chief Martin Brodie - Jaws

Two classic characters both with great lines.
