    by: Michael Manley
    From: Herald Sun
    October 01, 2012 12:49PM

Damien Oliver has been suspended for 11 meetings for slowing the pace on Elite Elle at Mooney Valley.

CHAMPION jockey Damien Oliver has been suspended for 11 meetings by Racing Victoria stewards for excessively reducing the speed at Moonee Valley on Elite Elle on Friday night.

Oliver is the fourth person to be found guilty on this charge in the past two years.
His suspension begins on Wednesday and ends on Friday week.
It is expected he will lodge an appeal.
Oliver is booked to ride Rekindled Interest in the Turnbull Stakes and Commanding Jewel in the Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington this Saturday.

no it's not another way of saying "pulling one up". he pushed forward and then grabbed hold abruptly and alledgedly interfered with a couple of horses behind him.
Report Thebas October 1, 2012 1:52 PM BST
looked like he tried to snatch the lead early
then the horse underneath him was going too well
so he grabbed hold to sit off the leader in 2nd possie
stewards say that caused a shuffle up behind

if he gets done for this
then stewards on sydney metro racing should apply the very same rules
and many of the cartel will be sitting on the sidelines there than riding

there is more 'stacking up' of a field ... once getting to the front in sydney
than anywhere in the world i would venture to say

why is there one rule for vic and another for nsw ?
Report PittsburghPhil October 1, 2012 2:49 PM BST
I didn't see the race but it sounds like the exact opposite of pulling a horse up. A rider on a front runner will often try to set as farcical a pace as possible and then sprint away from them, leaving the sprint as late as possible. Fair tactics in my opinion, unless of course he slows the field so abruptly that he causes interference to other runners, which is possibly what Ollie may have done.
Report logroller October 2, 2012 7:49 AM BST
it also may be setting up another horse in the race phil.......which is more likely
Report PittsburghPhil October 2, 2012 10:44 AM BST
Can't really see that, logroller. It's usually the ones who go suicidally fast up front that set the race up for a horse back in the field. Especially if they're racing contrary to their normal pattern and taking on a recognized front-runner.

Maybe the Jockey Tapes have come back.
Ill never forget a story a G1 Jockey told me how he was in the stands swearing on a Bible then they started to play the tapes.
He couldnt say anything took the wrap for several other Jockeys.
This story could get bigger.

nothing shifty in this instance for damian .. they should still have a look at similar practices in sydney metro racing off carnival when the pace cartel have this activity down to a tee (but with the leader - not with a horse that can't find the lead)
Report Lets Elope October 3, 2012 3:56 AM BST
chief steward is an ego maniac if Oliver continues on at similar pace they could've turned around and charged him  with riding in a uncompetitive manner or something along those lines, I havent had a good look at it but it's nothing you wouldn't see at least several times per meeting. Without even looking at the replay I would suggest oliver would probably get off on appeal or at least have the duration of the suspension reduced.
Report Thebas October 3, 2012 4:06 AM BST
spot on lets ... sky had announced about 5 minutes before i posted that damian was let off the charge

the replay showed oliver had a shot at leading .. couldn't cross .. so reined his mount in ... the stewards suggested he caused interference behind him by doing so ... no one i saw was reefing and yanking to avoid falling but i might stand corrected on another viewing angle

in sydney metro only that i am aware ... can a jock be charged for going 'too hard' too early (and not running a place)
this all started when robbo on a hawkes runner attempted to 'bust' the jock pace cartel in sydney ... where the race leader was getting away with murder in a race where i could have walked quicker early

robbo got 6 months i think after the stable (i believe) of the soft leader lodged a complaint either verbally or officially with the stewards (again i can be corrected on this - it was quite a few years ago)

since then the sydney stewards de facto have given the 'green light' to sydney metro races being run at a farcical pace thus giving the leaders a greater than normal advantage

in melbourne it appears the stewards have a penchant for expecting "the exact opposite" to occur ... to what is occuring off carnival time in sydney

how 2 major australian states can have stewards interpreting race pace "completely the opposite" is quite mystifiying to me Confused

yes thebas, the number of tearaways that happen at sandown midweekers is astonishing. Every second race has a vo rogue impersonator setting up a four or five length lead and ultimately running a tailed off porthole. Class jockeys like williams, dunn, olly etc all do it and because of who they are... never get questioned !! OK your horse was a leader.... but ffs... sprinting it up the hill and setting up a six length lead going into the home straight ????

Oliver supposedly had 10,000 on a rival in a race

if guilty will get 10 years
Report Craig The Speculator October 14, 2012 1:34 PM BST
as i wrote elsewhere it was one week after the other nasty rumours started to surface

thankfully they went nowhere but the timing is certainly a coincidence
Report Barney The Bot Slayer October 14, 2012 1:37 PM BST

Report bettingforfun October 14, 2012 1:51 PM BST

the depth of it could be unfathomable .... if you consider the possibility that RVL are only getting what the task force know will be eventually be given up in a future court of law as evidence from the box ..and so is reasonably announceable to the public via RVL. just a thought.

Happy as the Master would say. Stay Tuned.....
Whistle-blower May be involved.

But i will remain anonymous and i know nothing.
Everybody says the Trots are the Cheats. Gallops is MUCH bigger. More People Rorted in Gallopers than any other Gambling.
I only bet on the Trots and have horses with a Stable that is out there to win every Race.
Even a CO Country race if the Driver hasnt Driven the horse well they Cop a Spray no matter who they are and get a Spell.

I also Dont mind betting HK Gallops when i get the Sheets from No 1 Punter in HK that spend 2Mill+ au a race and have the World record Collect in the Tripple Treble. His Sheets are Gold

Pastieman is a Living Legend at Globe Derby. Last i heard the council tried to Bar him.
He is just trying to make an Earn.
