It came to my attention during the week that Sportingbet UK took over Centrebet (I suspected for some time). For those unaware, Centrebet was the amalgamation of the old Jupiter's Casino bookmaking venture and SportOdds. SportOdds took over the spin off when Jupiters took Burswood (at least that's my recollection of it). Centrebet has been my favourite corporate bookmaker for sports betting for many years but as of today the pricing algorithms have been altered and the value has been rendered farcical, such that I will be closing my account at season's end. Thus, the only decent Australian owned corporate bookmaker has gone, and we are left with Betstar, since pretty much every other half decent bookie has been sold to English or Irish concerns. Can barely get a bet for $1000 payout with those guys and every bet is referred. Will there be any Aussie bookmakers left in a year? Not any decent ones, I suspect.
I don't seem to be able to put 100 bucks on with sportsbet or centrebet without the bet been referred. Usually get some bullshit counter offer. Also the new centrebet website is so much harder to navigate now, not to mention much slower.

same with sportsbet and ias bet both owed by paddy power, sportingbet and centrebet both owed by sportingbet uk. they are all afckin joke..........when to have a bet with one the other day...freo at 2.05 the max i could have over the net was 93$ (i kid u not) said fck it had nothing and decided to wait.....now with the teams out more than likely wont bet, they cost themselves a good lay by their over aggressive profiling of a/c's and their nerd traders with balls the size of peas

I have been creaming Centrebet for years, in all sincerity and they never once complained because I always gave them good turnover. Seems the new model is based upon much lower turnover with much higher profit. Completely different model. UK model.

I received an email from centrebet 4 months ago stating that i was no longer able to have fixed odds bets via the internet but i was welcome to use their telephone betting service. I did nothing with them until a few weeks ago when i rang up to have $200 @ $2.40. After a long delay the operator came back & said that they were only prepared to accept $71. So, obviously my account has a limit to not have a loss exceeding $100!!! Ran 2nd, so they cost themselves some money & i have since closed my account.

Not uncommon for a client to get a decent spray from me over the phone- I'm pretty understanding but when some **** rings up half way thru the Melb Cup to have a bet at the next Kembla I dont cope too well!

I used to frequent the races and bet with rails bookies every day. So, no I am not averse to betting with "real" bookies. I guess it's just the speed and convenience of betting online. I can have a bet placed inside of 15 seconds. Can't do that on a phone and I am sometimes hedging in such a way that speed is of the essence close to kick off. No matter. I will soldier on with what's left of my current stable. If only every bookie was like Pinnacle...

i would bet with a real track bookie in a heart beat, if i could ring him at 7.30 tonite and bet in the geel/syd game. know what im saying? all the betting firms(and their not bookies) are run by accountants, lawyers and marketing exe's. they wont even employ a bloke with race track experience anymore, they want 22yo geks that r drones with no opinions that can be shaped into number crunchers.

Bookmaking as we have all come to know it is officially dead. I am struggling to get set on football betting now. The limits are a joke with most.
But how can this be? Who are their clients now? Surely if they opt for mugs the mugs will eventually run out of money. They need pros with volume to keep the books afloat don't they? Or the liquidity will just be a joke.
I guess I don't know much about the real workings of it. I honestly believed they needed us as much as we needed them. Look at Pinnacle. If the pros didn't bet there they would never be able to balance or make money. Their margins are so tight.

lol. Been fleecing CB for years. They closed my account minimum 2 years ago. 2 years before that put me on a 30 second minimum delay for every bet.
From my opinion, there are very few bookies that will take a bet on horses, but sports, much easier to get on. In fact, many of my accounts are 0 liability racing propositions, but happy to take thousands on sports. Generally, no delay, well all bookies have a delay occasionally but depending on their position sometimes happy for an immediate bet in the thousands. The difference between sports betting and horse betting is HUGE to the point where a lot actually act like bookies and are putting odds out on their opinion on sports, but following on course only for racing.....
IMO...

Just tried to place a bet on this arvo's Australia v Wales game at Sportsbet. They made me wait for 4 minutes before they flat out declined my bet. They then suspended the market before re-opening it with signigicantly lower odds. Are they even allowed to do this?

Agree with all the comments here. As I have said before, I am giving the game away at the end of the current footy season. Shame, but actually looking forward to finding new hobbies and enjoying spare time.

CrazySnake 22 Jun 12 17:05 If Betfair shuts down I might have to get a job Laugh
I have thought the same thing for 12 months, I don't think I could survive without using BF to be honest, which is a real concern to me personally in the current climate

Betchoice did that to me several times. I would notice overs, I'd hit it, they'd refer the bet and decline whilst simultaneously trimming the bet price I wanted. I have had that happen to me a dozen times with them alone. I rang them one time and asked to speak to one of their supervisors. They declined to speak to me.

I know I have been unkind in my words for Betstar in the past, but I want to retract a part of it. Today they laid me 2 nice bets, one of which won and the other lost. On one of them they had the best price on offer of all the corps I checked, by a significant margin and took a bet that I would not have begrudged them partially accepting. They are the last Aussie owned bookie I use. I have been avoiding Tom Waterhouse because I don't like him, but I might have to head that way.
Anyone got any experience with him?

Just had a look at Topsport. Prices are less than inspiring. Nothing special and mostly unders. They might take a bet, but in my game I can't afford to take anything but best price, which they don't offer on anything.

TopSport used be quite good. For the past year or two their prices seem to be linked to Betfair so it's very rare now that they are top odds anything.
Don't bother with Waterhouse. I had an account, had half a dozen $20-$50 losing bets and then got the phone call to say my account was being closed
