Only racing celebrates 2nd rate achievements as glorious. A rags to riches tale. Anyone can succeed.

Trouble is there’s very large training operations with the best equipment.state of the art facilities . Jockeys are given millions on retainers to get the best of the best. No stone is left unturned to gain an edge to the highest level. Marginal gains. In breeding. Nutrition. No expense spared.

So 39 top level athletes, operations plan all year to peak on a certain day. Years in the planning. Maybe a lifetimes work.

Then a dentist buys a horse 4 weeks before.that’s never won a chase beyond 2m2f. Got no experience. Trained by a man who hadn’t had a winner since November and a winner since last march in England.and beats them all.

It might seem a nice story. But it makes a farce of horse racing being a top class sport.

Not the best of the best. But the worst of the worst can compete.

It’s great that anyone can get involved and compete to a degree.but to win the biggest race on the biggest day.

What does that say about all the work. Skill. Class. Knowledge put in by the so called top class elite sportsmen.

It’s not as though it’s a wonder horse. It’s a bog standard hcper. With a below average jockey. And average trainer. And I m being kind there.

Connections have every right to be happy. And good luck to them.but when the leading jockey is jogging to keep fit and the leading trainer is doing blood tests or body scans on his horses.will they be thinking. I’m I wasting my time here.

Surely all this skill effort. Experience. Knowledge.should be able to beat less capable challengers.

These fairytale stories seem great. But they weaken the quality of the sport or event.

The rags to riches can still happen.but surely 39 professional elite outfits can find a way to stop an ametaur/novice

Racing should be showing the world how much goes in to winning at the top level. On its biggest day. Not letting everyone think anyone can do this.

Harsh on Emmet Mullins. He's showing himself to be a terrif target trainer. Maybe how you have to work if you have a small operation?
