Only a few firms are offering odds on this horse for the National so my advice is to take them now before he runs at Sandown tomorrow because the price won't last. He has a touch of class about him and is on a very fair handicap mark at the moment. This could all change though after the race tomorrow but Noel is a good jockey who I'm sure won't ruin his handicap mark!

I love the horse because of how similar he is to Neptune Collonges. Same owners, trainer and Sire. He jumps for fun and has looked in previous races against high class opposition that he wants further than 3 miles. Like Neptune Collonges he should love the step up in trip and should jump these fences for fun. Get on now while the 40/1 is still available!!

Hmmmmmmm, again just opinion but again I wouldn't read too much in to it. People keep saying about him only being a 7 year old and maybe in years gone by that would count against him but it isn't the same course anymore is it? The fences are a lot easier and he looks like he will improve for the step up to marathon trips.

This could be the best opportunity the horse ever has to win the race from a handicapping point of view so i hope connections take it. Really other than the Gold Cup what other options are there for Unioniste? The scottish national perhaps but he'd still have to lump around top weight in that more than likely.

I'm sure people said he couldn't win the December gold cup at Cheltenham because he was only a 4 year old but he did. He has a lot of jumping experience so take the chance now.

We get the same old reasons why all of a sudden a 7yr old is going to win.The race is too demanding and name me one 7yr old who has kept it's level of form after running in the race !!
Report Colldogg January 14, 2015 12:11 AM GMT
The Package kept his form pretty well considering he won the badger ales after racing in the national and he is still in training now rated 139 as a 12 year old! Just because so few 7 year olds run in a race that does not mean that a 7 year old can't win one.

How many 14 year olds had ran in the National/Beecher?? Yet it did not stop Hello Bud from winning the Beecher as a 14 year old. I'm sure his age would have been a negative going in to the race.
Report jasey January 18, 2015 12:25 AM GMT
Hello Bud was a CD winner and had came 5th in the GN and as we have seen this season with Oscar Time 2nd  and 4th in GN,a course specialists race.
What's Unionistes  new rating going to be 156ish,screams PU in GN and he not good enough for GC
Report Bindaree February 14, 2015 1:03 AM GMT
The Package only travelled about 3 miles in the GN as a 7yr old and when it won the Badger ales there were only 5 finishers.Didn't make the sort of normal improvement expected.

I very much doubt unioniste will be pulled up, he may not win but he,ll be staying on when the others have had enough Wink
Report marychain1 March 19, 2015 3:04 PM GMT
He comes out quite highly on my scoring system, especially as I have deducted points for anyone not 8-11
Report barry rico March 29, 2015 5:40 PM BST
Far too young , and  too much weight . plus the furthest he has won over was 3 miles 1 furlong , 4 miles 4 furlongs far too far for it as this stage of his career .
Report jasey March 29, 2015 6:51 PM BST
Campaigned this horse all wrong by getting him a massive hike in the ratings
Report Colldogg April 2, 2015 12:32 AM BST
Barry, don't think the trip has any bearing on it at all as he's clearly crying out for longer than 3 miles. He always gets outpaced in the group races before running on. He looks an out and out stayer with a touch of class much like his relation Neptune Collonges.

Agreed regarding the hike in the weights though. When I put this thread up the night before Sandown, I did not count on Fehily being as daft to win as well as he did going away. Thought he would leave his challenge late and try to pinch the race going up the hill. Taking it up so soon gave his hand away to the handicapper. Having said that, he could have improvement in him still and his staying on run behind Coneygree in the Denman certainly looks very good now.
Report barry rico April 2, 2015 5:56 AM BST
Unioniste may well be crying out for more than 3 miles but not another 12 furlongs  . every year you can safely cross 30 of the 40 off your list as non stayers and he was one of the first to get my pen . Unioniste will be crying but only to be pulled up when he realizes he has another circuit to go .
Report alleged22 April 2, 2015 7:48 PM BST
lol
Report Colldogg April 5, 2015 2:36 AM BST
Lol, I guess you was one of the first to cross a line through Neptune Collonges and all then as he was regressing and a Dom Alco and never ran over 4 miles 4 before either? :) We will see come next Saturday. One thing is for sure though, the horse won't be getting pulled up!
Report jasey April 5, 2015 10:47 AM BST
Compairing Neptune and Unioniste is stupid,NC was a very classy experienced grade 1 winner that  was proven in handicaps and was also very well handicapped in the GN.He had also ran in Scots National and placed in GN trial and GC.
Unioniste profile is the exact opposite.
Report Navel-Gazer April 8, 2015 2:07 AM BST
I wouldn't put anyone off Unioniste at a fair price of 25/1 because despite being only a 7yo, he's got enough experience and has the look of a strong stayer BUT why I won't be backing him is because he's got 11st6 and moreover, if memory serves, he's always looked on the small side to me (though I haven't seen him in the flesh)- that said, these fences can easily be brushed through nowadays so if you think he's up to the task then just ignore me Devil

I'm on Monbeg Dude & I'll have a speculative saver on Court By Surprise more in hope that a marathon trip might bring out the necessary improvement - at 50/1 I won't have to be staking much.
Report Colldogg April 8, 2015 4:06 PM BST
Don't think it's that stupid when Unioniste was staying on behind the Gold Cup winner giving him 5lbs and 3 1/2 lengths behind the Hennessy second giving him 4lbs so that's classy enough form for me in a Grade 2. Yeah ok he's not proven he is up to Neptune's class in his prime yet but he's hardly ran bad races this season. He's not as well in as some but I think he's the real deal and classy and will LOVE the National trip. I don't see the ground being an issue either.

If he hadn't of got his penalty for the OP run then it'd probably be favourite.

Report Facts April 11, 2015 8:55 AM BST
May have been fed the wrong information. But it goes out on a public website under the Oddschecker banner. So the onus is on them to check for accuracy. Otherwise their credibility will always be compromised by 'third party ' input.

Stands out to me as the likeliest winner this year, got 65/1, wouldn't swap him for anything else, great weight announced, what's not to like?
Report knot in wood February 16, 2016 11:27 PM GMT
did you see him run in the becher chase, horse seemed to have no confidence at his fences.
