I fancy both of them 2 beat him again, looks a non stayer.
Needs 30 2 drop out as well
Report Roger The Butler February 12, 2014 3:48 PM GMT
Last year number 76 got in, the year before number 72 got in so every chance of getting a run.

Not sure why you think he looks a non-stayer - those last two chases (Paddy Power and Topham) he has stayed on strongly -
Leopardstown: Held up, headway from 3 out, short of room on inner approaching straight, soon ridden and kept on well into 4th at last, went 3rd final 75yds, nearest finish

Aintree: Mid-division, blundered and rider briefly lost iron 6th, headway 14th, stayed on from 3 out, took 3rd last 50yds

Incidentally, jumped very well around Aintree too.

Does have some interesting bits of form! Huge price on here, runs on sunday over hurdles.- interesting!
Report marychain1 February 18, 2014 9:13 AM GMT
Only ever won 1 chase worth 4k but some decent place form.
Report Roger The Butler February 18, 2014 11:07 AM GMT
Yes the stats say you need to have won a £17k+ race, and won over 3m, both of which he fails on. At 25/1 I wouldn't be playing, but at 66/1 with his place form and form at the course he's worth backing.
Report bazzar February 19, 2014 12:24 PM GMT
The conditions say, to be placed 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th over 3 miles or more,
so qualified and BRYAN a stirrup for a short while during the race which
must have caused a problem, could be worth taking a chance.
Report bazzar February 19, 2014 12:25 PM GMT
LOST A STIRRUP.^^^^^
Report Roger The Butler February 20, 2014 9:24 AM GMT
Hi Bazzar,

My stats comments weren't regarding qualification - he's good to go if he gets in - but looking at the stats for winners of the race, the lack of a high value race win or win at 3m+ mean he doesn't fit the profile for a winner of the National.
Report bazzar February 22, 2014 4:13 PM GMT
Before the weights were published I backed WYCK HILL, but at around 96 in the weights not much chance of getting
in, your choice has a better chance of getting in and horses can't read ROGER,
so don't worry about stats, a 4yo has won the National when the wall was jumped and a 16yo has also won there are no rules or stats.

Entry alert:
Carrickmines Handicap Chase at Leopardstown on Sunday. Could be an interesting event with a few of the Irish Aintree hopefuls - Colbert Station, Double Seven and Home Farm all entered up.
Report jasey February 28, 2014 4:48 PM GMT
Last time is running sunday but i have read a good judge saying that he is going for the topham chase
Report TYSON 2 March 2, 2014 11:20 AM GMT
Hope he,s wrong!
Report trev w March 18, 2014 5:22 PM GMT
Been left in today.....and has a good chance of making the final cut.....so hopefully that points them in the national direction rather than the topham.....
Not a vast amount of breeding knowledge here.....but think he has roselier in him....which is a good influence of stamina...correct me if I've got this wrong lads
Got some big bf prices and the 66/1 nrnb e/w....was too tempting for me.

Interesting as the sire's progeny appreciate a sound surface which he hasn't had most of the time. Has a similar profile to Slim Pickings who showed improved form when getting a sound surface over a trip and is a possibility but has just been entered in the Topham. Do feel he is worth one go at a National as he could just be open to improvement.
Report TYSON 2 March 19, 2014 4:40 PM GMT
who else entered in the Topham?
Report Roger The Butler March 20, 2014 4:49 PM GMT
Only needs 5 more to come out to get a run so virtually guaranteed a go if they want to, though is also in the Topham where he is co-favourite at 14s with Skybet but 25s in a place (WH).

RMS,why don't you look up TRIOLO D'ALENE on Racing Post site, perhaps you will then begin to
understand, which horse is under discussion!!

Russell rode him last time as they are looking for a jockey for the gn.  Cooper rode it last year in the topham.  Russel will never get near him ever again as he nearly destroyed the horse.  My mate owns him and Last time dalbain is a serious horse.

Drifted to 140 for pounds, so  Topham looking most likely

Any word if he's still going for The National, not looking promising at the moment Sad
Report GoldCupWinner April 1, 2014 4:45 PM BST
I can see the appeal in backing him as he has completed over the fences and does look to be staying on over shorter trips. I had a quick look at his sires progeny and seen he has sired a midlands national winner on heavy ground so the hope he will stay is there. I don't think he is particularly well in with colbert station given he used a claimer and the winner was worth more for the margin of victory imo but he has a much better chance of completing the course than him.

Trainer Liam Cusack is hopeful of a big run from his Crabbie's Grand National hope, Last Time D'Albain, ahead of the Aintree spectacular on Saturday afternoon.

The 10-year-old showed a liking for the big Aintree fences when finishing third behind Triolo D'Alene in the Crabbie's Topham Chase last year and Cusack is hopeful that the son of Sassanian will stay the four mile and three and half furlong trip, having schooled well over the replica National fences at the Curragh last week.

Cusack knows exactly what it takes to run well in the Crabbie's Grand National, having ridden Ebony Jane to finish fourth behind Miinnehoma in the 1994 running of the race.

"Last Time D'Albain has come out of his last race really well and we're hopeful of a good run," said the trainer this afternoon.

"He schooled over the National-type fences at the Curragh on Friday and we were very pleased with him. We're hoping Robbie Colgan will ride him but that won't be confirmed until Thursday.

"We're bringing him over on the 8am ferry on Wednesday morning as we wanted to give him a bit of time to settle in. We brought him over a bit later last year (when he finished third behind Triolo D'Alene in the Crabbie's Topham Chase) but I think that arriving the day before racing will benefit him.

"We're hopeful the trip will suit in the National. The Topham trip might just be a bit too sharp for him nowadays and he stayed the three miles very well in the Paddy Power Chase last season. We're a bit in the dark when it comes to the distance but so are a lot of other horses in the race.

"He showed that he liked the fences last year. He jumps well so if he gets into a nice rhythm, then he could easily run a big race. He's definitely the best horse I've had so far."
Report rogerthebutler April 1, 2014 6:53 PM BST
Decent jumper but 'We're a bit in the dark when it comes to the distance' fills me with dread!
Report TYSON 2 April 1, 2014 7:43 PM BST
got to admire his honesty though! no guarentees with majority of field imho.
Report bazzar April 2, 2014 3:06 PM BST
Never been tried over a distance, so Cusack is honest about that, but he has French trained
Ascot Gold Cup winner in his pedigree, so the probability of Last staying would be a reasonable
expectation.

I always liked this one but when originally 92 on the list didn't think it had much chance of getting a run so didn't back it.  Took 90's last night though as everything you could ask has dropped right for it.
Report Meadow X1 April 5, 2014 11:25 AM BST
Sorry, make that 70 on the original entry list.
