As i really dont know the first thing about horses, i dont tend to bet on them.
Apart from on the grand national. When i think there is generally some value to be had.
My general princples are as follows.

(1) Never back horses with names that appeal to the general public
(2) Be wary of horses being tipped by pundits, national newspapers and are considered "the housewifes choice"
(3) Never trade horses at odds greater than 300/1
(4) Take advantage of large swings to lay and back. There seems to be great volatility for the mid ranked horses. 

This startegy has worked for me over the last 9 years on the exchanges. Interested to know others views on this startegy.

Dont Push It was the housewife's choice and won.
And every bird I knew backed Silver Birch on the name alone.
