Still 4 non-qualifiers - 3 of which would probably affect the cut-off. There was a bit of a bet on Bob Lingo (from 800s down to 200s) last night so I guess the connections are going to try to get him qualified (maybe Down Royal) in the next week.

Any guesses on who will be the last horse to get in?

Very hard to call - a lot will depend on the going at Aintree (and Fairyhouse beforehand); and how horses recover from Cheltenham. I think Alfie Sherrin is safe.

Yep i always get to this stage of the season and think "that horse won't get in". But in reality there tends to be loads of withdrawals for various reasons and somehow horses scrape in.

I'm hoping Tartak gets in (currently 61) - not sure why but I think it could run well!

Fabulous when you say the "original list" do you mean the first deceleration stage? Has anybody got that info to hand?

How many do we expect to be scratched on the 19th March? Upwards of 10?

Another 5 - 10 from today's list looks likely. There were more last year but that was higher than usual and included 3 NQs.

Yes, I agree on numbers with Rydal. Possible defectors - Midnight Chase, Albertas Run, Odysseus, Cloudy Lane, Major Malarkey imo .... MC, AR had poor Cheltenham runs; French horse still not qualified; CL will likely go for Aintree foxhunters; MM pulled-up with problem after one fence in Midlands National yesterday.
Add to that minor health problems with Imperial Commander; Sunnyhillboy and some recent poor runs from the likes of Oscar Time; Calgary Bay and it is likely to whittle down the field to around 50 by the time the 48 hour decs and four reserves are declared on April 4th ...

That leaves Any Currency as the last horse to get in. First reserve would be either Major Malarkey or Poker de Sivola depending on the handicapper as they currently have the same weight

Poker officially rated higher than Major, although both on same weight, so without any further withdrawals from the top 40, MM would miss out.

JHAS is right, but they won't officially apply the "ordering by current hcap mark" until final declarations, so MM is currently at number 40, but when final decs are made on Thursday, assuming things stay as they are, MM and PDS will switch around - they're both on the same mark for the race, but PDS has the higher hcap mark on declaration day.

Then again, if one above them comes out, then MM will be 39 and PDS will be 40 as when you're inside the 40, you stick to the original order - they only use the "ordering by current hcap mark" system when horses on the same mark are inside and outside the cut off.

Yep you are it PDS = 40, Major Malarkey = 41. Do we expect one more to be pulled out prior to Saturday?

Everything else I would think is an intended runner. Might be one more NR at best if something goes wrong with one of the 40.

Disappointing that 6 of the 8 withdrawals were Irish trained seriously depleting our chances of a first win in the race since Silver Birch in 2007.
