I think that Apt Approach wasn't entered in the first place.

Thanks Rydal, Wasn't even drunk when I put that list up......

Sad news about Apt Approach- didn't know until I read this. Actually laid him the other day but was out for the day. Feel bad now.
|
By:
Still awaiting first forfeits to be announced .... at this stage, I believe five horses are still not qualified for the race - namely Little Josh, Lambro, Ninetieth Minute, Matuhi and Bob Lingo (time running out)

Following first forfeits Beshabar, Jessie's Dream, Treacle, Lost Glory and Problema Tic now guaranteed a run.
Notables outside the 40 remain :- 41 Saint Are; 43 Wyck Hill; 44 Chicago Grey; 49 Harry the Viking; 50 Rare Bob; 51 The Rainbow Hunter; 57 Alfie Sherrin; 60 Any Currency; 61 Tartak |
By:
Which will be the last horse(ish) to get in do you think?
|
By:
Alfie Sherrin (my guess).

Forgot to add Katenko.

You beat me too it, Fab - very sad.
|
By:
Yeah Rydal, hopefully last of the bad news.
|
By:
Anybody know when the next forfeit stage is? Cheers
|
By:
Meat, 19th March.
|
By:
Still 4 non-qualifiers - 3 of which would probably affect the cut-off. There was a bit of a bet on Bob Lingo (from 800s down to 200s) last night so I guess the connections are going to try to get him qualified (maybe Down Royal) in the next week.
|
By:
Thanks for the info......
Any guesses on who will be the last horse to get in? |
By:
Very hard to call - a lot will depend on the going at Aintree (and Fairyhouse beforehand); and how horses recover from Cheltenham. I think Alfie Sherrin is safe.
|
By:
Yep i always get to this stage of the season and think "that horse won't get in". But in reality there tends to be loads of withdrawals for various reasons and somehow horses scrape in.
I'm hoping Tartak gets in (currently 61) - not sure why but I think it could run well! |
By:
Meat, it's nearly always between 72 & 77 on the original list.
|
By:
Fabulous when you say the "original list" do you mean the first deceleration stage? Has anybody got that info to hand?
Cheers |
By:
Sorry Meat, should have been a bit clearer, meant from the first list of entries when the weights are published.

Both Bob Lingo and Ninetieth Minute qualified today, which just leaves Odysseas as a Non-Qualifier.
|
By:
How many do we expect to be scratched on the 19th March? Upwards of 10?
|
By:
Another 5 - 10 from today's list looks likely. There were more last year but that was higher than usual and included 3 NQs.
|
By:
Yes, I agree on numbers with Rydal. Possible defectors - Midnight Chase, Albertas Run, Odysseus, Cloudy Lane, Major Malarkey imo .... MC, AR had poor Cheltenham runs; French horse still not qualified; CL will likely go for Aintree foxhunters; MM pulled-up with problem after one fence in Midlands National yesterday.
Add to that minor health problems with Imperial Commander; Sunnyhillboy and some recent poor runs from the likes of Oscar Time; Calgary Bay and it is likely to whittle down the field to around 50 by the time the 48 hour decs and four reserves are declared on April 4th ... |

A decision has yet to be made over the future of three-time Cheltenham Festival winner Albertas Run, but he will not be running in the John Smith's Grand National. (story to press at 3.25 pm)
