Good ground?? he always makes sure its good to soft at least in March.
Does he think it dont matter so much if the lesser horses get injured??

Put a super-efficient drainage system under the course so you have to put loads of water on top of it. Claisse is a clown.

Cheltenham racecourse has its own resevoir!

Despite Claisse's best efforts and extensive drizzle here in Cheltenham over the past 48 hours, they ground will not be slow if the prevailing weather forecast is correct. On the cross country course, it will be rattling quick.

Quite a nice day as I look out of the window. Nothing wrong with genuine good ground but it will suit the horses with a bit of toe.

What's the reservoir called? Lake Vyrnwy? Given the amount of water applied to the track and what seems to be a rather dry part of the world, you have to think the course reservoir can be (and largely is at times such as this) replenished from boreholes.

I understand the resevoir is fed by springs which used to be the cause of the course becoming waterlogged before the drainage was improved.

Bit of rain forecast tomorrow lunchtime and also overnight Friday but it will probably do no more than stop it drying out.

I'm going to check your understanding with the regulator's abstraction records. I suspect spin and the biggest spring yarn since Jean de Florette. 'Improved' as applied to drainage is an old farming term, presumably post-war governmental, and is a misnomer. If the system had truly been improved, Claisse would be in control of the drainage during dry spells as well as wet. Clearly he isn't as he's regularly having to water to prevent firm ground.
