Trainer Nicky Richards praying Skippers Brig just makes the cut for the John Smith’s Grand National at Aintree

NICKY RICHARDS is praying to get the news he wants this morning – that Skippers Brig has scraped into Saturday’s John Smith’s Grand National field.
The 10-year-old currently lies 42nd on the list of entries ahead of this morning’s final declaration stage. A maximum 40-strong field will line up and with Willie Mullins having already ruled Our Monty out of the race, Skippers Brig now needs just one more to drop out.
The 10-year-old is currently a best-priced 40-1 chance with several firms including Coral, William Hill and Victor Chandler.
He has won on his last two outings, beating Donald McCain’s Ballabriggs at Kelso on his most recent run.
If he gets in he would meet McCain’s charge on 8lb better terms and Richards is desperate for his charge to face the starter in the Aintree showpiece.
The Greystoke handler said: “The plan would be to run him if gets in as long as it doesn’t dry out too much.
“Nobody seems to have looked at the weights to see that we’re much better off with Donald’s horse, nobody is talking about him but that suits me.
“He’s in fantastic shape and everything has gone well. I just hope he sneaks in.
