The Timeform experts have raved about the chances of CALGARY BAY for the National. After an e-mail from Henrietta. Henrietta's friend Harriet advised her to put £10 each way on it as it could be the next Best Mate. That's good enough for me. Henrietta's best mate has encouraged her to bet on the next Best Mate. I think you can get about 50-1 on it. Rory the Timeform expert on Radio Timeform says it has a cast iron each way chance.

I've posted up on my tipping blog as my main selection. I've also put £2 on it for my Auntie Mary.

Yeah I heard Rory Delargy tell the world he's backed him to. They should all club together and throw another tenner down a wishing wellLaugh

Is Rory Delargy not a very good tipster?

Two and a half milers are just right for the national. Is this another of those ancient adages which might have had a vertage of sense when the stiff fences and mad early gallop by some made it sensible to 'hunt' the first circuit and race the second? Thus allowing 20f horses to appear to stay 36f. The castrated course and generally fast side of good going of today has killed it off if ever existed I would say.

I don't think there was any truth in it, but it doesn't matter in this case as calgary bay is a proven three miler.

Ah well, I suppose it is a bit of a lottery. But I got on at 50 and I last saw 38. So I could lay off for a free bet. But I'll give it a go. I remember in last year's Gold Cup Calgary was staying on at the end ( I think he was 6th to Imperial Commander). So I think he will stay. I think he has a great chance if he stays on his feet(as Ray Wilkins would say).

MUTLEY :Is Rory Delargy a very good tipster?

Rory could tell you what horse won the 3.15 at Perth on Sept 4th 1975 who rode it and what price it was.

Show him a photo of a group1 2 or 3 horse who ran in 1966 and he'll tell you it's name.

Just don't ask him what's going to win the national as he's wearing rose coloured glasses at the moment.

Apparently he got involved, by chance, with Calgary Bay's first ever schooling session and has been his number one fan ever since.

Used to be a huge fan myself but like AP MCcoy I gave up on him. At his best he has the ability to win of his present mark but I'll be shocked if he gets the trip to be honest.

Travels well but seems to hit a brick wall in the latter stages of almost every race he runs these days.

Cheers Rondetto. I've got him in my seven horse Aintree acca today. First two home and hosed. Got Binocular in next.
