Tom Segal said in his Racing Post Column:

IT HAS been a pretty incredible few months for Sam Waley-Cohen to say the least. The King George, the Gold Cup, matchmaking for the royal family and I, for one, wouldn’t bet against him winning the Grand National either. The Waley-Cohens clearly have an eye for a top horse and having acquired Long Run they seem to have made an equally shrewd purchase with Aintree in mind in the shape of Oscar Time.

Of all the horses who are fancied in the run-up to this year’s great race, I haven’t seen one who jumps as well as Oscar Time. He makes lengths at his fences and has clearly been trained with one race in mind all season. Last time he appeared to not see out the trip as well as The Midnight Club in the Bobbyjo at Fairyhouse, but he stayed the Irish National trip under a big weight in dire ground and I just can’t have it that he was anywhere near peak form last time.

Martin Lynch is going to have him spot-on for Aintree and I think the Waley-Cohens have a great chance of winning the three most prestigious chases all in one season. I also think Sam’s style of riding is tailor-made for these staying chases in that he clearly gets horses jumping and he has a great record around Aintree. Those who are still in jumps mode should consider backing Oscar Time for the National because on good ground there isn’t any other horse in the race I would rather have.
