25 years of daily Napping coming to an end.

It's been a literal rollercoaster - Premier Champion several times, followed by the inevitable plummet to Division 3;
and then the effort to start climbing the Divisions once again.

I have (tragically) logged-on, for those few minutes, up mountains, at family events and regularly from foreign hotel-resort receptions,
where that was the only place that had WiFi and used a VPN.

A mildly enjoyable pastime and hobby, such a shame, but such is life.

Sad, a habit that I like.

Premier League champ once which i still struggle to believe.

Have met several people in "Real Life" that I've met on here when I ran my "Todays' Selections" and "Everton Transfer Stuff".

Would be OK if they could just keep the Competitions page going and close the rest?

But then all the numpties you get on the other topics would all invade 'our' space I suspect...

Only other communications site I use is Whats App but if there is some way of keeping it going then I would make the effort to join another app to be a part of it.

Very sad occurence after the best part of 24 years posting. SadSadSad

Cheers, mad.

Was a great phroum back in the day 20 years ago when you could change your username at will.

Nowadays since Communism and the Feral Left and their obsession will controlling speech it has become unusable.

The competition threads are the only thing worth participating in.

Agree completely - I moved over from flutter pre 2000 and have multiple usernames. I assume the cost of policing it now has become too much. Sad but true. I have met several forumites on here. Lucky Luciano, Andrew-In-Sweden, Workrider to name just a few. Been racing internationally with them and now have horse ownership too all due to the forum. It will be sadly missed by me. As we have all said though its not what it was and I now just do the comps. Good luck all

The competitions kept my interest in horse racing without the need for having a bet, being a pensioner the naps leagues, big race and big meeting competitions. Now I  may even stop my racing tv subscription too.It will be greatly missed by me  Cry

Same. I have not had a bet in years. Just asw ell because I have convinced myself many-times that I have cracked the horse racing code only to then go on a mammoth losing streak CryLaugh

Back in 2007ish no matter what your problem in life you would probably get some decent advice on here. Nowadays with the shutdown of speech it is a waste of time.

As an alternative to this forum, the best site for competitions is www.tipstercallenge.com

Strange VIRGIN didnt mention this taken from the Horseracinf forum ...

70 registered users (guessing almost all from here) on the new forum home so far.

https://bfnc.forumotion.com/

That's already more people than are usually on here even when it's busy.

Come and join in all.

I've been wanting to say something about this ever since the notice of termination went up but found it difficult to find the words. So I make no apology for asking AI to do it and this is the draft it came up with. Which sums up my thinking:-

Many posters seem to assume that moving the Naps Competition to a new forum is simply a matter of copying the existing threads across and carrying on as before. Unfortunately, it is nowhere near that straightforward.

The competition has evolved over many years and a great deal of work happens behind the scenes. What participants see is only the final table and results. Underneath that sits a framework of rules, procedures and settlement processes that have been developed and refined within the Betfair forum environment.

One challenge is the settlement system itself. While some aspects are automated, that automation was built specifically around the way the Betfair forum operates. Recreating that elsewhere is not just a case of pressing a button. It requires detailed knowledge of the code, formatting, data capture and presentation methods used by the original system. Even for someone with considerable technical expertise, that is a substantial project.

A second issue is the rules. Many of them date back years, perhaps even decades, and were written for a very different technological era. They often rely on assumptions about forum functionality, posting habits and administrative practices that may not exist on a new platform. Before any successful migration could take place, those rules would almost certainly need a thorough review and modernisation.

There is also the problem of testing. A competition involving large numbers of entrants, daily settlements, promotions, relegations and historical records cannot simply be switched on and expected to work perfectly from day one. Any replacement system would need extensive trialling to ensure accuracy and fairness.

None of this is meant as criticism of those who are trying to create an alternative home for the competition. Quite the opposite. Anyone attempting the task deserves credit for the effort they are putting in. However, I think it is important that people understand the scale of what is involved.

The Naps Competition is not just a thread on a forum. It is a long-established system with years of accumulated processes and administrative knowledge behind it. Reproducing that successfully on a different platform is likely to require significant development work, rule changes, testing and ongoing support.

I very much hope it can be achieved, but I think expectations need to be realistic. What appears from the outside to be a simple transfer is, in reality, a complex migration project.
