Daft thing is we are not out of it, but it's going to take a huge change of fortune to have any realistic chance.
I dread to think how much money punters will throw away today, many just because it is Saturday. I haven't bothered, after a while it becomes much easier to leave them alone.
Last night I narrowed it down to three for the purposes of this - Yes I'm Mali (20/1-11/1), Izzy Fast (did shorten, but back out to 12/1), and Oolong Poobong (6/1-4/1). The last named was the only one I had any prior knowledge of having backed it at Royal Ascot. On that form it clearly has a big chance, but has clearly had issues, and hasn't run since. The trainer says it wants soft, but I am not sure about that, and whether it wants a mile rather than a stiff seven furlongs. It's too short as well now. There was no obvious fluke about Izzy Fast winning a maiden at 50/1. Can she reproduce on a totally different track, and first time in a handicap, albeit a poor one? I am a bit concerned about the stiffer six furlongs. You could argue that Yes I'm Mali is pretty exposed, but this is only his third start for the stable. The jock won a couple of big field handicaps at York, and yesterday added another couple of wins at Newmarket. The big question mark is the step up from winning a class 5 off top weight to running in a class 2 off bottom weight. It could all be too much. So despite the drift I decided on:-
3.27 Newmarket Izzy Fast EW
Very limited confidence, but fingers crossed. Hopefully, we can get something today. Good luck.

Lion of Mali 15.30 Haydock 10 points win is my selection for this round.
This horse must have a big chance of winning today. Won 3 out of 4 and must have a good chance of going in again off only a 2LB rise. form figures ae 2-1121 and 3/1 looks an attractive price to have a go at. Drifted since this mornngs opening show probably due to the uncertainty on the goinG for the horse.
Thats the risk as its an unknown buts its sire sands of mali and dam Setantil girl have both run ok on soft anfd heavy ground so im hoping it wont be an issue. It also has the highest offical rating in the race.

I just thought this looked a huge price. Shaped up very nicely on her Salisbury debut, knowing her job, and then rallying strongly when headed. That was a Class 3, and the two that beat her might be useful. This is a Class 4. At the price I thought she was worth a dart. As ever fingers crossed.

Disappointing, I don't think she ran her race. Never a good sign when you see a jock with feet out of the irons before a race. Outpaced, and worst track position, and then the jock seemed incapable of prompting a late charge. On another day she might have been second. Perhaps she wants another furlong, but I wouldn't give up on the idea of her winning a race.

Standard continues to be really poor. Teams are winning rounds with scores that in previous years that would have been closer to bottom. Still it would be nice not to actually finish bottom.
The racing has been dreadful all week, and is the same today. Horrendous stuff. I will be watching the cricket, and just dip in once.
I had two choices, Arapaho Gold or Velvet Ash in the last at Listowel. Given she is a nicely bred newcomer (from the Morley Street/Granville Again family) trained by Gavin Cromwell, Velvet Ash looks twice the price she should be, and is drifting. For that reason, although I have backed her each-way, I have to leave her alone for this competition. So it's:-
14.48 Beverley Arapaho Gold WIN
I thought this looked a Royal Ascot type when he won first time. If all goes well maybe the Norfolk? Has been strong in the market despite the favourite seemingly having the best of the draw. He is by a first season sire from an old Juddmonte family which they obviously gave up on. As ever fingers crossed.
Good luck

Hopefully, you won't need a wildcard, but mine would be the one I mentioned above, Velvet Ash EW in the last at Listowel. Since attracted a bit of support 10/1-13/2. Benie Des Dieux's first runner a big drifter.

Bit shambolic yesterday. It didn't matter in that Velvet Ash never looked likely (the early market was correct), but it could have been a double whammy with the Rule 4. I think a withdrawn horse should be treated differently to a non runner, rather than just automatically being dumped on a horse you had no interest in.

Dance in the storm must have a big chance in the last race at Epsom. Won with style at Chester and can complete its unbeaten start to the season later today.

Another shocker of a day. Not far off resorting to a pin.
Just about persuaded myself to back this one:-
3.33 Worcester Emerald Tir EW
Represents a new combination - you wouldn't have thought they want to advertise themselves by sending out washing jobs - with a decent jock booked. Nice pedigree containing a couple of Festival winners in Menorah, and for those with as long a memories as myself, Denys Adventure. You would think that the ground will soften everywhere, so fingers crossed that won't be a hinderance. Has just been smashed up, fortunately just after I backed it. Fingers crossed the support is accurate.
Good luck.

Another fourth, not great after the fourth in the Oaks that ran out of track yesterday. Today this one got collared for third. Not too surprising as it never consented to drop it's head, and race properly at any stage. No surprise if it ends up racing with some sort of aid. Has ability, but on that evidence you wouldn't trust it to use it.

well done all MF,s winner takes us to 3rd- 5 points and off the bottom.
If we win the last round potential chance of runner up spot.
some nice priced winners for round 8 are the way forward

Unlucky last time. I thought he could be a lively outsider for the Jockey Club. At the moment the front two are hype over achievement. Demuro not ideal, and I don't think it will want it too soft. Not done too well with this stables runners this year, hopefully this is different. Not gone each way as fed up of missing out by one place on numerous occasions. Fingers crossed.

At least I didn't put it up each-way, but given the horse more than halved in price, that was a really poor effort. The stable has now failed to deliver time and again with horses upped in class. Idiot ride from Demuro, but that's what he so often does. Last time the horse sat a length off lead, this time he thought it was a good idea to give an odds on favourite four easy lengths start.

I haven't been following, but it seems like it's taken us 16 weeks to get going. A bit like some of my selections this week.
I don't think I have enjoyed a Festival less than this week. It's prompted me give up, and take a break. Plenty of other sport out there, and if you are not enjoying it, and it seems impossible, there isn't much point just carrying on. Two winners in two years at Royal Ascot is useless. Last year a few crossbars, but this year, not even that. Jamestown at 40/1 would have salvaged things, but to be fair never looked likely.
2.30 Royal Ascot - Ez Tina WIN
No big write-up. She's a big model, and hopefully, she can defy the draw. I think she either wins, or bombs, so I don't see any point in the each-way.
Good luck.

Well done everyone - we finished on a winner to move us upto mid table.. TBF it was alow scotring comp and not a lot between most of the teams.
Thanks for all your contributions over the tournemount and I hope you all have a great rest of the year.
Hopefully we can get higher up in the next comp.
Take care all!
